Crash Bandicoot’s Neo Cortex Appears To Be Joining Skylanders

A recent retailer posting has seemingly ousted the inclusion of Crash Bandicoot’s arch nemesis Neo Cortex as a playable character in the next entry of Skylanders.

While gamers anxiously await the remastered collection of Crash Bandicoot titles, they can be forgiven for forgetting that the beloved platforming mascot is set to make another comeback of sorts in this year’s iteration of Skylanders. Launching with the subtitle of ‘Imaginators’, it was revealed during E3 2016 that the one and only Crash Bandicoot would be joining the game via scannable action figure. This version of the character is said to be a timed exclusive for PlayStation fans, however, it now seems that he won’t be the only mascot from his universe joining the fray.

A recent posting from infamous gaming retailer GameStop seems to have revealed the inclusion of Crash Bandicoot villain Neo Cortex within Skylanders Imaginators. The image featuring the mad scientist was featured in the PlayStation 4 section of the retailer’s website, but has since been taken down by the company. As this is the digital age, many gamers were able to secure images of the bundle before it was removed – taking to NeoGAF to showcase the mishandled assets.

Those hoping to sneak a peek at the figures for Neo Cortex and Crash Bandicoot in all of their Skylanders glory can do so below.

Fans are sure to point out several other characters from the bandicoot-centric franchise that would have made for much more interesting additions to the game, but there’s no denying that Cortex is the big baddy of the series. As a result, his inclusion alongside Crash makes a lot of sense, and it’ll be interesting to see how the pair play in comparison to one another.

As previously stated, Crash Bandicoot and (presumably) Doctor Neo Cortex are timed exclusives for PlayStation users. This simply means that they’ll initially be made available within the PlayStation bundle of the game, but there are plans to make them available for purchase separately later on. Furthermore, the figures are compatible with every version of Imaginators regardless of platform, so fans can look forward to enjoying the retro couple anywhere they want to go. It also means that fans will be able to have Crash Bandicoot interact with the likes of Bowser and Donkey Kong in the Wii U installment.

Now, which beloved gaming mascot could possibly be joining the world of Skylanders next?

Skylanders Imaginators is set to arrive for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 16, 2016.
