Finally seeing a formal announcement yesterday, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time will release later this year on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The official sequel to Naughty Dog's iconic original Crash trilogy, it seems the title will look to resurrect the style of game that made Activision's seminal mascot such a staple of the industry, with old school platforming, a greater variety of abilities, and tons of colorful levels.

However, fans were quick to point out that Crash Bandicoot 4's decision to release  on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is somewhat disappointing. Yet, it seems Activision is aware that players on additional consoles want to get their hands on Crash's newest adventure, with the company claiming there's the potential for the game to arrive on other platforms in the near future.

In a statement to PCGamesN, Activision claimed "we are still evaluating additional platforms for a future date," instructing players to "stay tuned for more information." With fans desperately wanting to see the game make its debut on Nintendo Switch and PC, it seems likely that the title could make the leap to one or both of them in the months following its planned debut. There's also the discussion of whether the long-awaited sequel will have any form of presence on the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, with its release date landing within the same period of time the next-generation consoles are alleged to be released in.

When looking at the Crash Bandicoot's N.Sane Trilogy and Spyro: The Reignited Trilogy, both of these Activision titles dropped first on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One before landing on other consoles a year later. It seems likely It's About Time will do the same, so Switch and PC fans will likely have to wait just a little longer before they can experience the next entry in the Crash Bandicoot franchise.

As for what Crash's newest adventure will be about, it seems the fourth game will be a direct continuation of Crash Bandicoot: Warpedwith Neo Cortex returning from his banishment to the past to get revenge on Crash and Coco. The title will supposedly allow players to control several characters, while Crash will be able to gain new abilities by donning the mysterious four "Quantum Masks." Regardless, it seems as though the celebrated gameplay of the N.Sane trilogy will return, with a number of more modern subversions added to make Crash's newest adventure feel like a contemporary platformer.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time will be available for PS4 and Xbox One on October 2, 2020.
