Of all the gaming franchises that deserved to make a comeback, many would argue Crash Bandicoot was at the top of the list. Now, with the release of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, the future of Crash Bandicoot is looking bright. However, for some users there have been difficulties in terms of upgrading Crash Bandicoot 4 to the PS5.
As more and more players begin to transition from the PS4 to the PS5, many have begun to take advantage of the free upgrade that comes included for PlayStation users with certain titles. For the most part, every backward compatible PS4 game on the PS5 has been able to successfully upgrade, but with Crash Bandicoot 4 in particular, some users have faced technical issues.
The official Twitter page for Activision Support tweeted out that it was actively investigating reports of Crash Bandicoot 4 not upgrading from PS4 to PS5 for some users. While this issue may not be widespread for all users, it can certainly be irksome for those who wish to experience the game on their next-console generation.
In any case, hopefully Activision will be able to rectify issues that players have been having when trying to upgrade Crash Bandicoot 4 to the PS5. It's possible that the new features for Crash Bandicoot 4 found on PS5 could be attributed to the issues players have been having, considering the content is different to what's featured in the base PS4 version.
It's somewhat strange that there haven't been any notable reports of users running into similar issues with different games. Why this is happening now, after the console has been out for several months, is curious. Of course, not every game has received a PS5 upgrade, with titles like Bloodborne and Death Stranding still missing PS5 upgrades alongside other PlayStation-exclusive games released during the last-console generation era.
In terms of Crash Bandicoot, it will be interesting to see what the future holds. Given the success of the N. Sane Trilogy, which led to an official fourth installment decades after the release of Crash Bandicoot 3, it seems that the demand and love for the series has been revitalized. With any luck, this should lead to more entries in the series and potentially new series revivals, such as the recent Spyro the Dragon remaster.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is available now on PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, with a PC version releasing on March 26.
