Sigur Studio has officially announced Cowboys and Rustlers, a top-down action-adventure game set in the Wild West and taking inspiration from Red Dead Redemption. Since the launch of Red Dead Redemption in 2010, the outlaws of the Old West have become a popular subject for video games based on the lawless nature of the setting. Numerous games have taken inspiration from the cowboy story and Rockstar themselves would even launch Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. Now, the makers of parody game Rustler are back with a new Wild West-themed game.

Cowboys and Rustlers wouldn't be the first time the developer has taken inspiration from Rockstar's storied history of open-world games. As Jutsu Games, the developer would launch Rustler in 2021 as a medieval parody on the Grand Theft Auto franchise's classic top-down formula from the early days of the series. Rustler would include plenty of humorous elements as part of the game, with everything from traffic lights for horses to the Monty Python franchise's iconic "holy hand grenade." Now, Cowboys and Rustlers takes the chaotic comedic action to the Old West.

Cowboys and Rustlers was officially announced as a top-down action-adventure game set in the Wild West of cowboys and outlaws. The game follows a cowboy and his cynical talking horse, Theodore, on a quest to complete the horse's novel. Cowboys and Rustlers will feature a similar top-down style to Rustler with its announcement trailer sharing the same kind of comedy, including a roller-skate ramp in an Old West Town alongside a poker mini-game. Sigur Studio did not confirm a release date for Cowboys and Rustlers, with fans able to wishlist the game on Steam.

Cowboys and Rustlers is set to feature plenty of mini-games alongside the cowboy action with numerous side features for players to try out. The game will reportedly include classic cowboy staples like bank robberies and poker, with players shown to be able to cheat by drawing on the cards. The developer also promises plenty of unique features like lasso tricks in combat and even the ability for players to use gatling guns to their advantage in a fight.

Cowboys and Rustlers' announcement comes as many fans have wondered if and when Rockstar will return to its iconic cowboy franchise. Red Dead Redemption 2 did not feature a major story expansion similar to the first game's Undead Nightmare DLC. Many fans have already begun to speculate about a potential Red Dead Redemption 3, though Rockstar has yet to officially confirm a new sequel to the Old West series. Cowboys and Rustlers will look to be a comedic take on the cowboy action that captured the hearts of Red Dead fans.

Cowboys and Rustlers is in development for PC.
