After a lot of teasing, Netflix has finally released the first official trailer for Cowboy Bebop and it is full of great footage from the much-awaited series. With less than a month to go before the live-action series premieres on the streamer, the first trailer has fans of the anime quite excited for what’s to come.

Even though the live-action Cowboy Bebop series isn’t aiming to be an exact adaptation of the original anime, the two-minute trailer for Cowboy Bebop confirms to fans that it will be heavily influenced by it and the original plotlines. From the protagonists, spaceship, to the bounties, there are a lot of similarities between the two series. And judging by the trailer, it seems like the creators have maintained the noir themes.

The Cowboy Bebop trailer begins with John Cho's Spike Spiegel narrating the story of his new job as a bounty hunter while referring to his partner Jet Black, portrayed by Mustafa Shakir. During his conversation with Ana, played by Tamara Tunie, he informs her that if she ever needs to find him, he goes “by the name Spike Spiegel now.” This hints at a slight deviation from the original Cowboy Bebop series, suggesting that the name is simply an alias that Cho’s character has adopted to hide his true identity.

The trailer then goes on to introduce fans to the live-action Black and Daniella Pineda’s Faye Valentine. Similar to the original series, Valentine seems to join Spiegel and Black at a later point in their journey, but from that point onwards, the three of them are seen working together, alongside an adorable corgi. Fans of the anime will recognize the Cowboy Bebop theme song and the scene of Spiegel and Black facing off against the Teddy Bomber.

The trailer promises a lot of action, especially hand-to-hand combats that are quite reminiscent of the Western movies about cowboys. The setup is quite different from the original anime series, and it remains to be seen how closely the 10-episode Netflix show will cover the original Cowboy Bebop series.

Despite this being the first official Cowboy Bebop trailer, Netflix had revealed footage in a teaser prior to this. The 'Lost Session' teaser trailer offered fans a look at the three bounty hunters at work, but it was confirmed that the footage would not be a part of the series. The extremely stylized trailer did manage to draw in a lot of attention, especially from fans of the original anime series. The new trailer has managed to increase the hype, too, with several social media users reposting the trailer already.

Cowboy Bebop premieres on Netflix on November 19, 2021.
