Defying the odds, Valve has released Counter-Strike: Source for the Mac in a punctual manner. Last week we passed on the information that the classic online FPS would be coming to Steam for the Mac, with our expectation that the game would be released toward the latter half of the week. However, as promised with Mac releases, Valve got CS:S out on a Wednesday!
So, what's the big deal? Well, Counter-Strike: Source had been in a public beta for PC for some time, and now the beta has been pushed through as the update to the full release - coinciding with the Mac version's full release.
The update houses some new additions - the title now has 144 achievements, beefed up lifetime statistics, an updated and more robust scoreboard, a new death cam showing who killed you, domination and revenge systems, and various new engine and UI updates. Both the Mac and PC versions are cross-platform, so you can repeatedly crouch over your friend's corpse no matter what type of system they are running.
As usual, if you've owned a Steam copy of Counter-Strike: Source in the past, your Mac will automatically download the new version once you login to Steam. If you are jumping into the game for the first time, snag it quick because it's 66% off for a few days, bringing the original $19.99 price down to a mere $6.80 for hours of multiplayer shooter joy.
If you've read our posts regarding Counter-Strike coming to Mac, you'll know I've been waiting for the title to finally grace the Mac with it's presence. Not only is the game now on the Mac, but it's chock full of updates to enhance the experience. Needless to say, I know what I'll be playing tonight!
Are you excited to get back into Counter-Strike: Source?
