Counter-Strike GO Release Date

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valve's latest foray into the ever-popular shooter series, has just received a release date and price point. The game will release during the Summer.

PC/Mac, PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will able to experience Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on August 21st, 2012. The game will cost $14.99 on all platforms, which is five dollars less than what Counter-Strike: Source currently goes for on Steam.

Global Offensive will bring new maps, weapons and characters in addition to content available in previous games. Valve is taking popular maps like de_dust and updating them for the Summer release. You can see the game in action through the beta footage that was uploaded to YouTube few months ago.

As was previously announced, the game will not support cross-play between the PS3 and PC/Mac versions. This is so Valve can continuously update the PC version, without having to go through the certification process required for patches on consoles. The PS3 version will have Move support, and will also allow players to use a keyboard and mouse if they prefer.

Overall, the game looks to be shaping up pretty nicely. The UI has been revamped to give it a more modern feel, while the gameplay looks to still retain the classic Counter-Strike charm. When the game releases, it should be easy enough for veteran players to settle into, while at the same time being a great starting point for new players -- a good thing considering the game's learning curve.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive releases on August 21st, 2012, for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC/Mac.
