Costume Quest is a 2010 turn-based adventure RPG starring Wren and Reynold, two hapless siblings who simply adore everything that the Halloween season has to offer. When one of the siblings gets mistaken for a large piece of Halloween candy by the bumbling Grubbins, it's up to the other sibling (depending on who players choose to be the main playable character) to provide rescue and save the day, and ultimately Halloween as a whole.

Apart from its cozy, spooky Halloween aesthetic and superb sense of overall presentational details, it's the game's use of Halloween tropes that makes Costume Quest a real winner. From trick-or-treating to bobbing for apples to wearing awesome costumes, this game is sure to keep Halloween fans invested for the long haul. The game's turn-based RPG battles and world exploration rely on various costume powers that turn our protagonists into what the actual costume represents. Here then are the best costumes in Costume Quest ranked from worst to best.

The costumes in this ranked list are only from the main Costume Quest game. The Grubbins on Ice DLC costumes aren't included here.

10 French Fries

The idea of wearing a fast food-themed Halloween costume in the form of a giant french fry suit might sound silly on paper, but in practice, it looks pretty darn cool. This costume in Costume Quest is unique (along with two others in this list) because it isn't obtained via found costume pieces. Instead, it must be purchased from a specific vendor in Fall Valley.

While it might seem like a cool costume, it really doesn't come in handy. It can be used for light exploration during certain gameplay segments; however, it's an optional costume to collect. Its battle ability ('Salt Assault') can be helpful to stun enemies, but the other costumes on this list are more robust overall.

9 Black Cat

One of the rarest and hardest to obtain costumes in the entirety of Costume Quest is the Black Cat costume. It's easy to think that a rare costume would be incredibly useful, unfortunately, this isn't quite the case with the Black Cat. Players are only able to receive this optional costume after filling out their Creepy Treat Card collection.

This costume's battle ability isn't really going to come in handy. Know as 'The Cat's Meow'; this ability can make enemies flee; however, doing so means players lose out on much-needed XP to level up. It's a neat costume to collect for the sake of collecting but there just isn't enough reason to actually use it during gameplay.

8 Unicorn

Ah yes, the humble unicorn: this costume is easily one of the most vibrant and fun to wear in Costume Quest. The Unicorn costume might just be the most elusive and sought-after costume in the game. While it doesn't necessarily provide the biggest battle advantage for our Halloween-enthused misfits, it sure does look stunning.

The Unicorn costume can only be obtained after first collecting the Ninja costume (more on that later) in the Autumn Haven Mall. The costume requires players to find intricately hidden costume pieces, one of which will likely have players pulling out their hair in frustration since it's so well hidden. Its battle ability 'My Pretty Panacea' is fun to use but will quickly be swapped out for other costume abilities instead.

7 Vampire

the vampire costume during a battle

It's a shame that the classic, spooky, and dapper Vampire costume doesn't add much to exploration or battle since vampires are such an iconic part of the Halloween season. In order to find the Vampire costume, players need only to look through a handful of Treasure Coffins in and around the Auburn Pines neighborhood area of the game.

'There's a Bat in My Hair' is the name of the Vampire costume's main battle ability and it certainly packs a punch by stunning enemies while returning some health back to the party. For that reason alone, it's a good one to don; however, beyond that, there isn't much reason to keep this costume in rotation for the long haul.

6 Ninja

Many players are going to absolutely adore the Ninja costume in Costume Quest, especially since its basic attack is powerful and its main ability, 'Kitsune Shroud,' can conceal a party member to negate or avoid damage when attacked. The Ninja costume can be obtained via three separate costume pieces, much like many other costumes in the game.

In and around the Tunnels and Aracade areas lie the costume pieces. Interestingly, the costume pieces can only be found in a very specific order as the story moves along, making it one that players don't have to backtrack to receive.

5 Space Warrior

The fact that Costume Quest has a Space Warrior and Robot costume might seem strange given their similarities; however, each feels and plays differently enough. The Space Warrior might be one of the more understated costumes (aesthetic-wise) in the game but its use in battle more than makes up for any presentational shortcomings.

The combination of using the costume's ability to light up dark areas for exploration and having a battle ability ('Meteor Avalanche') that can quickly lay waste to countless Grubbins in a fight makes this intergalactic warrior a true costume contender.

4 Statue Of Liberty

It's such a strange inclusion to have a costume like the Statue of Liberty in a game like Costume Quest. Fortunately, this healing-centric costume is great to have in the player's party. There really isn't much explaining that needs to be done in regards to how this costume looks since most people are at least familiar with what this iconic statue looks like.

What makes this costume so fantastic is that its main battle ability, 'Anthem,' has the power to restore a plethora of health to all party members at the same time. Healing will become incredibly important in the late game, especially during the tougher boss fights. Interestingly, this costume is actually provided as a unique reward for 'The Patriotic Party' questline.

3 Knight

the valiant knight costume in battle

One of the very first main costumes that players will receive in the game is the valiant Knight. Received from Everett in Auburn Pines, the Knight costume looks regal and protective. This protective quality comes into play during battles since the Knight is able to deal out punishing sword-based melee attacks alongside the battle ability, 'Guardian Shield.'

Despite being an early-game costume, it remains one of the best throughout the entirety of the game. Plus, this costume just looks great on every character in the party.

2 Robot

The Robot costume is quite special in that players don't have to do anything at all to obtain it since it's one of the costumes either Wren or Reynold is wearing, depending on which starting sibling is chosen. While the costume itself might look a bit daft since it's pretty much just some painted cardboard boxes made to look like a robot, its simplicity is what makes it one-of-a-kind.

This costume has two main selling points that make it one of the best in the game. The first is that the Robot costume allows the player to zip around the explorable areas on rollerskates. The second is that the Robot's battle ability, 'Missile Barrage,' can deal some devastating damage to the enemy team.

1 Pumpkin

Another classic example of a Halloween item is the humble pumpkin. It's very cool that the game features plenty of Halloween tropes in the form of costumes in the game, if only just to flesh out the spooky season aesthetic. The Pumpkin costume can be obtained from three different areas: Auburn Pines, Autumn Haven Mall, and Fall Valley.

Gosh, this costume looks so darn neat with its base costume form essentially being a pumpkin body with a jack-o-lantern head. However, once the full-on battle starts, this character looks straight out of Sleepy Hollow or The Nightmare Before Christmas. It has a flaming jack-o-lantern head and a crisp autumn leaves suit. Plus, its main ability; 'All Hallows' Eve,' can send the Grubbins flying with a powerful tornado attack.

Costume Quest is available on PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mobile.
