Have you ever been wondering a trail in search of a specific pokémon only to get abruptly interrupted by a bug catcher who wants to fight? Now, despite them likely throwing out 4 Metapods and completely ruining your day, they do have the right idea.

Pokémon come in all shapes and sizes, and bug-types happens to be some of the cooler designed pocket monsters roaming the various regions. Let's look at the 10 coolest bug-type Pokémon in any and every region and rank them from worst to best.

10 Ninjask

If Ninjask were people they'd be the quiet party guests in the corner who are mingling in the background looking cooler than anyone else there. Ninjask isn't a pokémon whose design radiates cool like many of the other entrants on this list we'll get to later.

It simply has a sleek and modern design and doesn't lean too heavily into bug or insect-like features. It pays tribute to them and twists it into a very Eastern version of cool and mysterious. Your friend who vapes probably has a Ninjask.

9 Beedrill

Bees are fascinating simply for the fact that they can be portrayed as cute chubby bumblebees while at the same time look like machines of violence looking to sting anything in their path.

Depending on the design of a bee based creature it could either end up on a list documenting the scariest, cutest, or coolest looking bugs. Beedrill is the final evolution of Weedle and takes a harmless looking larva into a ferocious bee soldier who's willing to protect itself and others with its super cool drill hands.

8 Yanmega

Dragonflies have a name that contains the word dragon, so naturally, all kids who love fantasy are going to be immediately interested. If Yanma is the fighter jet of dragonfly pokémon than its evolution Yanmega is the battle tank.

Since Yanmega is obtained by leveling up a Yanma with ancient power, it's assumed that Yanmega is the form of Yanma who used to roam the lands many years ago. When your sporting a coat of red, black, and green it's hard to not look cool.

7 Golisopod

golisopod

Golisopod in many ways is the Gyarados of the 7th generation of Pokémon. It evolves from a creature called Wimpod whose name should give you an indication of the type of temperament it has.

Golisopod looks like an alien that would appear as the final boss in a video game based on the Men In Black franchise. It's covered in layered scales that make it look like it's outfitting in real battle armor. It's hard to rank it higher when it has an ability that pulls it out of battle when it has less than half of its health left.

6 Heracross

Heracross is as blue-collar cool as it comes. It's a pokémon whose overall design doesn't differ much from its real-life inspiration. Hercules and goliath beetles are often the insects young boys and girls become enthralled by because of their horns which are reminiscent of dinosaurs and high fantasy armor.

Though Heracross received a mega-evolution in recent years, fans have still been holding out hope for either a pre-evolution or an evolution past his base form. Will the upcoming Galar region be home to it?

5 Scolipede

Now, Scolipede is cool in the same way that the caterpillar from Alice In Wonderland is cool. It's an acquired version of cool and to many people, it may just look jarring and slightly disturbing.

Scolipede also happens to be two of the more fear-inducing types as it is both bug and poison-typed. The thing is we all know someone who owns weird pets, and though you'd likely never want to own any of those pets, your friend is a little bit cooler because of it. They're also a lot weirder for it, but everything must come in a balance.

4 Volcarona

Moths aren't typically the bugs people think about when they're considering cool inspiration for fiction based properties. Volcarona is the moth that breaks the mold and features a design that portrays strength, danger, and a reserved power.

Insects and bugs whose bodies are brightly colored have evolved that way to warn possible predators that they're dangerous and not worth messing with. Some of it is bluffing, but like Volcarona, take the colors as truth and avoid messing with it unless you're confident in your battling abilities.

3 Scyther

For the longest time Scyther has been considered one of the cooler designs for a pokémon regardless of typing. It has only been surpassed by its evolution and another bug who happens to by mostly robotic.

When you combine the head of a dragon with a body largely inspired by a praying mantis you're starting with a naturally cool base. Scyther likely became cool in the late '90s due to how similar he looked to the popular green Power Ranger which kids across the globe thought was the symbol of cool.

2 Genesect

Apart from the ongoing fan theory that Genesect is a form of Kabutops that was modified into a cyborg bug, Genesect on its own is a cool looking pokémon.

The secondary typing for Genesect can be changed depending on what drive is attached into its cannon. Intimidating bugs and robots are two of the coolest things and when you mix both of them into one creation you're bound to have something that people find interesting, whether by coincidence or skill. The mystery surrounding Genesect is still alive and well, which only adds to its coolness.

1 Scizor

After the release of Pokémon Red & Blue, many trainers didn't believe there could ever be a bug-type pokémon cooler than Scyther. Little did those trainers know that they would eventually be introduced to an evolution of Scyther that was somehow even cooler than it was.

It turns out that by giving Scyther a metal coat the resulting creature would be the coolest bug-type pokémon to ever exist. The decoy faces on Scizor's claws is a nice touch that gives it another advantage in battle.
