Mobile games are inherently the most accessible form of video game around, with the vast majority of the population owning mobile phones, and with games being just one tap away. And with over six million downloads, Cookie Run Kingdom certainly points towards this theory being true.
Cookie Run Kingdom has gained a huge deal of popularity over the last few months, with many citing the game's unique blend of RPG and city-building gameplay, along with humorous dialogue, quirky characters, solid voice work, and fun story as reasons behind the game's sudden growth. However, the lore behind Cookie Run Kingdom is surprisingly deep, and GingerBrave's story gets quite complex.
The Tale of the Ancient Cookies
The Cookie Run Kingdom story begins centuries ago, when three witches attempted to create life using a handful of cooking ingredients. After throwing in some Life Powder and Moonlight, the first living cookie was created. A whole batch of sentient cookies were then baked, but the witches had nefarious purposes, and started to devour their creations.
The cookies managed to pull off a daring escape, and the leftover flour and unbaked biscuits would eventually turn into living cookies after being left in the sun. The cookies then united, creating the first cookie civilization, the first Cookie Kingdom.
Five Ancient Cookies ruled over Cookie Kingdom: Hollyberry, Pure Vanilla, Golden Cheese, White Lily, and Dark Cacao. These Ancient Cookies were said to have a mysterious ingredient inside them that granted them eternal life, a Soul Jam.
The Cookie Kingdom lived peacefully for many years, its Ancient Cookie leaders heralding in an age of prosperity and happiness. That would all soon change. When the witches fleed from the cookie uprising, they left behind some Life Powder, which inadvertently birthed Cake Monsters, creatures born from darkness.
The leader of the Cake Monsters, known as the Dark Enchantress, set her minions on the Cookie Kingdom, laying siege to the peaceful city. Even all of the Ancient Cookies' combined might couldn't stop the Dark Enchantress, and their final battle led to a stalemate, in which the Ancient Cookies, their Soul Jam, and the Dark Enchantress all perished.
The Cookie Kingdom was left in ruin, and the darkness was left without a leader. Both factions faded into obscurity over the years. That is, until a little cookie by the name of GingerBrave was born.
The Heroic Account of GingerBrave
Being born in the witches' hut, GingerBrave makes a cunning escape, being pursued by Cake Monsters through the forest. After deciding to stand his ground and fight the creatures, GingerBrave defeats the monsters, and faints from exhaustion. When he wakes, he's surrounded by Sugar Gnomes and a few fellow cookies, who convince GingerBrave to start to rebuild the Cookie Kingdom.
After GingerBrave makes a few more friends, literally, he returns to the Cookie Castle, only to discover that the legendary Kingdom Crown has been stolen by a Cake Hound, who taken it into the Roll Cake forest. Thus, GingerBrave's quest begins.
On his hunt for the crown, GingerBrave meets a slew of friends, including White Lily Cookie, who has lost her memory. The cookie crew, upon defeating some Jelly Wryms, decide to look for the long lost original Cookie Kingdom ruins. After passing three trials, the team head into the Vanilla Kingdom, only to discover that it was sealed years ago by the Pure Vanilla Cookie to trap the Dark Enchantress.
The team decide to leave the gate alone, and head to the nearby Pomegranate Village, where a curse is said to be affecting some cookie members of the town. The crew defeats the curse at the Ancient Altar, and is given directions to the Blueberry Yogurt Academy, where the Ancient Cookies studied long ago.
Heading into the dilapidated Academy, the team has their first combat encounter with the Dark Enchantress, and manage to fend her off, but are teleported to the Vanilla Kingdom in the process. In the Vanilla Kingdom, the Dark Enchantress' followers have all gathered, planning to harvest the Soul Jams from a time-loop, created during the Ancient Cookies battle with the Enchantress years ago. After another run-in with the Dark Enchantress, the team, with help from Pure Vanilla Cookie, fends her off once again. GingerBrave's tale isn't finished just yet, as he vows to seek the Enchantress out and put a stop to her once and for all.
