10 Gears 5

Coming September 10 is Gears 5, the paradoxically named sixth entry in the famous Gears of War series. It is being developed by The Coalition, the same team behind Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Gears of War 4. Returning are beloved characters like JD Fenix, Delmont Walker, and Marcus, although you will be playing as Kait Daiz. According to The Coalition head Rod Fergusson, Gears 4 was all about saving Kait's mom, so he wanted to expand her character and make her the central focus of 5. Will Gears 5 finally be the exclusive that the Xbox One has been waiting for? I guess we'll have to see...

9 Borderlands 3

It's been seven years, but Borderlands 3 is finally here! Well, almost. Serving as the fourth main entry in the Borderlands series, this will be releasing on September 13 for the PS4, Xbox One, and Windows. Like its predecessor, this is a loot-driven first person shooter, but it also features a few new mechanics. This includes wall-mounting and crouch sliding, the latter of which was heavily influenced by similar gameplay elements in Titanfall and Apex Legends. Borderlands 2 was extremely well received and earned numerous accolades, and we have no doubt that Borderlands 3 will be just as good, if not better.

8 Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Ghost Recon Breakpoint will serve as a direct narrative sequel to Ghost Recon Wildlands, which was arguably the most popular Ghost Recon game yet! It will also serve as the eleventh main installment in the series, proving that Ghost Recon is just as relevant today as it was back in the early 2000s. The game will be set four years after Wildlands, and it will see the Wolves commandeering Skell Technology's drones. A competitive multiplayer mode is also scheduled for launch, so even if the narrative doesn't strike your fancy, you can still get down with the latest and greatest Ghost Recon gameplay.

7 Luigi's Mansion 3

Luigis-Mansion-3-Cropped

Mario is obviously the star of Nintendo, and he has been the very face of gaming for over thirty years! However, his brother is certainly no slouch, either. Luigi's Mansion was one of the greatest games found on the GameCube, and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon was one of the best games of 2013, regardless of console. As such, we have full confidence that Luigi's Mansion 3 will be just as brilliant. It is being developed by Next Level Games, the same studio behind Dark Moon, and it is said that the game will be more open-ended than its linear predecessor. Sign us up! You can catch Luigi's Mansion 3 on the Switch on Halloween. Very fitting.

6 Pokémon Sword And Shield

Any time a new Pokémon is released is a time for celebration. Luckily for us all, 2019 is gifting us with a new entry in the beloved series - Sword and Shield. The game is being developed by the always reliable Game Freak and will serve as the first Pokémon release for the eighth generation of consoles. Very little is known about the game, although it will have a few new gameplay elements. These include cooperative raids, open world areas, and a mechanic called Poké Jobs. Gyms will also be making a much-welcomed return, so look forward to that! Sword and Shield will be released on the Switch on November 15, just in time for the holidays!

5 Shenmue III

Shenmue III has been a long time coming. The first two were released way back 1999 and 2001, and while Shenmue III was planned from the beginning, it quickly entered development hell. This could be due to a significant lack of funds, as the first two Shenmue games were huge commercial disappointments, despite being critically acclaimed. What can we say? That happens sometimes! Development of the game was eventually launched through Kickstarter, where it raised over $7 million. And now, nearly two decades later, we finally have a release date for Shenmue III - November 19, 2019. The hype is certainly there. Can it deliver?

4 Doom Eternal

Did you love Doom? Did you enjoy its fast-paced action, gory visuals, and head-banging music? Well, chances are that you will love Doom Eternal, because it looks to be more of the same. There are a few new elements to the gameplay, including new weapons (an energy sword for one!), a retractable arm blade, and a meat hook that will be attached to the shotgun. The creative director has also stated that there will be twice the variety in enemies, which will include new types like the Doom Hunter and the Marauder. By all accounts, this will be an amazing game, and it certainly inject new energy and enthusiasm into the 2019 gaming landscape.

3 Contra: Rogue Corps

Do you still care about Contra? Well, if you do, then Rogue Corps is just on the horizon! Scheduled for release on September 24, Contra: Rogue Corps will serve as a direct sequel to 1992's Contra III: The Alien Wars. Like Neo Contra, it will feature a top down view and will contain single player, co-op, and four-player local co-op, which you certainly don't see too much of nowadays!

We suppose they're bringing the series back to 1992, and to be honest, we are not against that! If you want an old fashioned shooter with arcade-style gameplay, look no further than Contra: Rogue Corps.

2 The Surge 2

the surge 2 exosuit battle

We'll be honest here - never in a million years did we think that The Surge would get a sequel. For those who don't remember, The Surge was originally released back in 2017 and served as a spiritual successor to Lords of the Fallen. The sequel is coming on September 24, and it will again be developed by Deck13 Interactive.

The gameplay will primarily consist of melee combat and will feature a unique gameplay element in targeting specific body parts and limbs, Fallout-style. You can also leave notes to other players, similar to Dark Souls. It's like a greatest hits hodgepodge of other fantastic games, and we can't wait to try it out.

1 Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare

Modern Warfare isn't really a sequel, but it also kiiiind of is, so we're counting it! Modern Warfare (which will most definitely result in pandemonium come Christmas season) will be released on October 25 and will serve as a soft reboot of the Modern Warfare franchise. As such, fan-favorite Captain Price is returning, which is why we say it's kiiiind of a sequel.

The game will feature a renewed focus on tactical gameplay over run-and-gun shooting, and it will feature the gameplay mode Spec Ops, which was last seen in Modern Warfare 3. We know you're all suffering a little from Call of Duty fatigue, but Modern Warfare looks to be the best one in a while. Of course, that's what they always say...
