The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is receiving positive feedback based on the first few reactions of those who have seen the film. Many of these reactions come from social media and a lot of them are saying similar things about Warner Bros. The Conjuring 3.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is the third installment of the iconic supernatural horror franchise that follows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, with their case on Arne Johnson (who is the first person in the US to claim "not guilty" due to demonic possession) being the subject of the latest entry. The Warrens were actually a real-life couple that investigated many supernatural occurrences around the world, including the infamous and now iconic Annabelle doll. The Conjuring universe (which includes spin-off films The Nun and Annabelle) showcases different aspects of the cases that the Warrens have dealt with.

In terms of their dynamic (shown in the film) Ed is a more hands-on investigator with cameras, sound equipment, and practical tools while Lorraine’s gift is sensing the spirits as well communicating with them in order to give insight into what it is they want, as well as what to do to defeat them. The Warrens make a perfect team and during their investigations, they find that most cases aren't “paranormal cases” but the films manage to bring the horror elements.

Sometimes reactions aren't enough to predict whether or not a film will be worth watching, but The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It reactions indicate this upcoming sequel will deliver on a high note. Of course, only time will tell if it will be on par with what the previous two films have done in terms of horror, storytelling, and suspense. Director Michael Chaves said he wants this to be the biggest and scariest out of The Conjuring series, but most moviegoers will have to wait and see how true to his vision it remains.

As far as horror movies go, there haven’t been too many franchises that have held up in terms of competition with The Conjuring series. The same way Resident Evil has been on top in terms of horror video games, The Conjuring has been on top of the horror box office. Franchises such as HalloweenSaw, and Predator are all getting sequels within the next year, yet they haven’t hit the high note as they did during their prime. The Conjuring is at the top in terms of "popularity," but there's no telling how long will it be until this series or universe has run its course.

In terms of iconic horror villains, we haven’t been getting too many that have stood the test of time in recent memory. The Gallows attempted it with Charlie and Don't Breathe did an excellent job with "the blind man," but that's not a series that can have 10 sequels like Friday the 13th. Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and Freddy Krueger are all iconic yet very much a thing of the past. They will forever be prevalent in pop culture, but it seems that new films fail to grab fans as well as the old fans who grew up with these characters.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will be available on June 4th both in theaters and on HBO Max.
