Conan Exiles is a survival game where players need strong weapons and an even stronger wit to survive and thrive. Still, no amount of axes or swords can keep players safe without a study set of armor to protect their literal skin in the game.

Players can try to turtle up and build a strong base but at some point, everyone has to venture out to gather supplies. The right armor can be the difference between coming home unscathed or with severe injuries and nothing for the player's efforts.

Updated on February 6, 2024, by Jeff Drake: The great thing about the armor in Conan Exiles is how much flexibility it gives the player when putting together a new build. Much of the legendary armor grants a bonus to the wearer's physical attributes. One thing to remember is that drop rates for legendary gear are low, so players may need to defeat the listed enemy or perform the listed action multiple times. Just because an item is labeled "Legendary" in this game, it doesn't necessarily mean the item is superior. There are many non-legendary items that are better. These items are more for prestige than for practical purposes.

18 War-Dancer Chest

Light Armor That Boosts Strength Damage

• Heat and Cold Resistances
• Improves Strength-Damage Weapon

This piece of light armor is designed for a dancer. As a result, it doesn't possess a high armor rating - dancing in heavy armor is not practical. Going to battle in dancer's garb is also not very practical. Unless it's the War-Dancer Chest. This piece of armor gives a modest amount of protection to the wearer; enough to make it an option.

The War-Dancer Chest increases Strength-Weapon damage by six percent. It also grants a small amount of cold and heat resistance, though, not enough on which to rely.

17 Legacy Of Nordheimers

High Armor And Superior Cold Resistance

• Heat and Cold Resistances
• Excellent Cold Resistance and Armor Ratings

This large ornate helm provides the wearer with a healthy amount of cold resistance (15); among the legendary armors, only the Dragonscale Helm provides more. This helm also provides a significant boost to the wearer's armor rating. There are entire suits of armor that don't provide the armor rating of the Legacy of Nordheimers.

Players needing protection from cold should seek this helmet. It does provide a small amount of heat resistance as well, not enough to rely on, but some.

16 Horned Helmet

A Helmet With Superior Durability

• No Resistances
• Excellent Durability and Armor Ratings

There really isn't much to the Horned Helmet. It doesn't come with any special ability, or have any cold or heat resistance. The only thing that would clue the player into the fact that this is a legendary piece of armor is its great armor rating and superior durability.

The Horned Helmet has a durability rating of 5,000. Considering the fact that legendary items cannot, as a rule, be repaired, high durability ensures the player will not have to replace this helmet anytime soon. The high armor rating is also a solid reason to equip this helmet. Lastly, it's a horned helmet, which is about as barbarian as it gets.

15 Night Stalker

A Headdress That Enhances Night Vision

• No Resistances
• Enables Night Vision

The Night Stalker armor consists of the Night Stalker Mask. There is much better headgear if players need help staying alive during fights. This mask doesn't provide as much to a character's armor rating as the other legendary headgear, but at least it doesn't weigh much.

Nighttime in Conan Exiles is dark; player visibility is, at best, 15 feet. Even with the brightness set to the maximum, it's still hard to see. The Night Stalker Mask improves the wearer's night vision. In some games, like Fallout, having night vision completely negates the gloom of night. The night vision in Conan Exiles isn't nearly as useful, but it does help.

14 Godeye

A Lightweight Eyepatch That Increases Strength And Lowers Accuracy

• +3 Strength

The Godeye armor consists of an eye patch; yep, that's it, an eye patch. Many players probably don't think of an eye patch as a piece of armor. Those players aren't entirely wrong with regard to the Godeye. This piece of headgear only grants the wearer 32 armor, but it's also extremely light.

The +3 to strength is nice, but the Godeye also covers one of the character's eyes. This blindness translates to a small (-2) penalty to accuracy. If accuracy isn't a problem, but damage output and encumbrance are, then this might be a smart choice for headgear.

13 Executioner's Hood

A Light Hood That Provides More Protection Than Expected

• Heat and Cold Resistance
• +3 Strength

Despite the appearance of a simple cloth hood, the Executioner's Hood is actually a piece of heavy armor that provides the wearer with a generous 190 armor; which is comparable to the best pieces of legendary headgear. The heat and cold resistance granted by the Executioner's Hood is minimal.

This piece of armor also has the advantage of being lighter than other pieces of armor with similar armor ratings. This helps keep the player from being encumbered.

12 Nemedian

Repairs The Wearer's Weapon When They Are Struck

• No bonuses or resistances

The Nemedian armor doesn't provide any resistance or boosts to the wearer's attributes; however, this helmet provides a powerful bonus that can be exploited. Every time the wearer is hit, the Nemedian loses one point of durability (maximum 1800). In exchange for this loss of durability, the weapon in the wearer's right hand has six points of durability restored - basically, this helmet repairs the wearer's weapon when taking a hit.

When a thrall uses the Nemedian, hits do not lower the durability. Even though no durability is lost the wearer's weapon is repaired. The player can force a thrall to use their weapon and the Nemedian, and then proceed to punch them for a quick and cost-free method of repairing a weapon.

11 Brute

Legendary Helmet And Gauntlets That Increase Strength And Grit

• Heat Resistance
• +3 Strength
• +3 Grit

The Brute gear is made of the Gauntlets of the Brute and Helm of the Brute. The helm grants the +3 to strength, and the gauntlets give the wearer a +3 grit. Any piece of armor that gives the wearer a boost to strength is useful. The boost to grit is even more useful; when a character runs out of stamina they are essentially prone to enemy attacks.

The Brute armor pieces also provide a small bit of heat and cold resistance. The increase in armor rating from the Brute armor pieces is about on par with other pieces of legendary armor.

10 Khari Overseer

Slaver's Gear That Improves Strength And Grit

• +6 Strength
• +6 Grit

The Khari is a terrible civilization of slavers, though if one also keeps slaves or thralls for themselves in Conan Exiles, then they might need to turn down the hypocrisy and maybe embrace what they've become by taking after the Khari. The Khari Overseer armor set is the best way to label oneself in such a nasty endeavor.

While we don't condone such digital methods, one can't deny the protective appeal of the Khari Overseer armor. If players wear the complete set, they get significant amounts of strength and stamina.

• Scroll (Khari Overseer Armor) drops from the final boss of the Wine Cellar. This allows players to craft the armor set.

9 Khari Soldier

Armor That Greatly Improves Vitality

• +6 Vitality
• +6 Grit

If being dressed as a slave-trade enforcer of the Khari is a deplorable thought, then perhaps dressing up as one of their soldiers might be more palatable. The Khari Soldier armor set in that regard might be the better option.

It's perfect for players who want to make tanky characters due to the high amount of vitality the armor gives to its wearer. It also has a better helmet compared to the Overseer set, stylistically.

• Scroll (Khari Soldier Armor) drops from the final boss of the Wine Cellar. This allows players to craft the armor set.

8 Khari Raider

Lightweight Survival Gear

• +6 Encumbrance
• +6 Survival

By far the coolest-looking out of all the Khari legendary armor, the Khari Raider set is a good choice for shady and stabby players as well as roamers. It grants a lot of encumbrance so players can carry more items. The survival bonus is also great if players don't plan on getting comfy in one spot.

It's by no means an innocent armor though, as Khari Raiders spearhead the slave acquisition operations of the Khari. Hence, the need for all that encumbrance bonus. Players can put that to better use if they want.

7 Scorpion Armor

Armor That Provides Poison Resistance

• Cold Resistance
• Poison resistance
• +3 Survival

If players want stylish and functionally impressive top-portion armor, then the Scorpion Armor takes the cake. True to its name, it gives out a staggeringly high amount of defense though the armor only has two pieces (helmet and torso).

On top of the good defense, the Scorpion Armor also automatically heals any poison in its wearer's system. If that's not enough, it adds in Poison and Cold Resistance as well as a bit of survival bonus for players who think the world is too harsh.

6 Sobek's Armor

Serpentine Armor That Increases Vitality

• +9 Vitality

It's not the best-looking armor, but Sobek's Armor makes players beefy and meaty beyond recognition both literally and figuratively because the armor turns them into an upright crocodile. That's a given since the armor is named after an Egyptian god a crocodilian appearance.

Anyway, Sobek's Armor gives out tons of vitality, turning its wearer into walking crocodile hide tanks. Each individual piece also adds up to the overall defense and resistance.

Where to get it:

• Aridis, Chosen of Sobek in Xalthar's Refuge

5 Vermin Hide

Light Amror That Improves All Attributes

• Heat Resistance
• +2 all Attributes

Anyone looking for a perfect clothing match for the Scorpion Armor might want to check out the Vermin Hide armor set. This only consists of a pair of pants and a pair of boots, like it was tailor-made as a companion to the Scorpion Armor.

Another reason why it complements the Scorpion Armor so well is the granted Heat Resistance. Meanwhile, it's also great for any character build thanks to the universal stat bonus.

4 Pride of Aesir

Improves All Base Stats

• Cold Resistance
• +2 Accuracy
• +2 Strength
• +2 Vitality
• +2 Grit
• +2 Encumbrance

Speaking of all-encompassing stat bonuses, the Pride of Aesir won't back down from that contest. It's also one of the best armor sets for players who love to make their characters into well-rounded conquerors.

Each piece of the Pride of Aesir armor gives a specific stat bonus. Wear all of them and they might as well be +2 to the most popular and essential stats. The armor set also looks like it was plucked straight out of a Norse-themed Valkyrie opera performance, players can practically hear Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries while wearing it.

3 Godbreaker Armor

Imposing-looking Armor With Numerous Benefits

• Heat Resistance/Cold Resistance
• +100 Armor
• +1 Grit
• +2 Strength
• +2 Agility
• +1 Encumbrance

For one of the most powerful legendary armor sets there are in the game, the kind that makes godly avatars tremble with fear, look no further than the Godbreaker Armor. It turns the players into their own walking avatars of death and destruction.

As far as protection goes, it's the most generous, adding another 100 points of defense on top of the individual piece bonuses. It's also imposing enough to make the players worthy of worship.

• A stele on one side of the Warmaker's Sanctuary

2 Commander's Armor

Armor Designed For Exploring The Desert

• Heat Resistance/Cold Resistance
• Sandstorm Mask
• +3 Vitality

Another good pairing for the Vermin Hide, if players find Poison Resistance wanting, is the Commander's Armor. It also only consists of two pieces, the helmet, and the torso guard. Its appearance was also inspired by classical Greek hoplite attire, complete with the Corinthian helm.

The Commander's Armor is also great for exploration in the desert areas of the game; it comes with an innate Sandstorm Mask, making the wearer resistant to all those flying grains of annoyance.

1 Arena Champion's Armor

Crom Would Be Proud To Wear This Armor

What good is armor if one can't show it off, right? That's why the Arena Champion's Armor exists the way that it does. It's the shiniest and most radiant armor in the game, made to reflect the player's enemies' faces, so they can see how ugly they look before they're smitten.

Stat-wise, this heavy armor offers plenty of protection along with some impressive bonuses to melee-focused characters. The innate Cold Resistance makes it ideal for snow parts of the map.
