Survival games aren't anything new. There have been multiple of them that have popped up over the years and Conan Exiles is no different. Despite the number of survival games, players still tend to make a few mistakes when they first hop into the world.
After all, each survival game has different rules that players must adapt to. This is bound to cause a few mistakes to be made and a few accidental deaths. Get ready, the crash course on what not to do in a survival situation is about to commence.
10 Don't Forget Water
When first spawning in, players will find themselves in a desert that is almost devoid of life except for a few shrubs. Luckily, nearby will be a waterskin that they can get their hands on for a little drink. This will help stave off the heat for at least a little while, but it won't last forever. Some players will take a look at the map, see the nearest water source and start running. Take advantage of the free water provided and don't just leave it behind. It will be able to be used later when players are on the move.
9 Start Gathering Resources Early
While it will always be tempting to run to the nearest source of life when a player spawns in, they will want to avoid doing that right away. Sources of life equal animals and animals equal fighting to survive. Players could soon find themselves unable to defend themselves. The best thing they can do in the beginning is to start gathering resources. while roaming the desert, players will be able to grab bugs from shrubs, get fiber, and gather stones. All of these items will be used later on. Plus, this will get the player some experience to help them later on as well.
8 Don't Go Somewhere Too Dangerous
Part of survival games is exploring the map and finding out where players want to settle down to make camp. Study the map, and take it slow. Don't travel somewhere too dangerous. This can immediately lead to poor results and possibly even death. Take it slow, level up, and take on each new area one at a time. It wouldn't hurt to get some information online about what places are good for new players instead of hoping for the best.
7 Be Ready For A Fight
One thing about many survival games is that they actively promote PVP or player Vs player combat. Conan Exiles has plenty of servers that offer PVP combat, but that isn't the only combat that players will need to be aware of. Players will also come across NPCs and animals that will try to attack them.
Players need to prepare themselves early on for combat or risk dying over and over again. Start by building simple weapons that will be useful for defending oneself. Having two to three different weapons will help when confronted by multiple enemies.
6 Know Where To Get Resources
Speaking of exploring the world, players will want to remember where to find resources and how to get their hands on said resources. Some of these can only be made or obtained in certain ways. A good example is resin. In order to get resin, players will need to have a pickaxe of iron quality or greater. Resin can also only be obtained from trees in the highlands. Steel can be made after level 10, but it takes a specific method to create it. Knowing this information is key to helping players survive.
5 Don't Drop Items
There is a reason for every item being in the game. Just because something seems pointless in the beginning doesn't mean it won't be used later on. Some new players have a habit of discarding the items they believe they won't use. This is a huge mistake. Maybe that item that was discarded will be the key to creating a necessary item in the future. New players have no way to tell what will be necessary, so it is best to hang on to it all for later use. Of course, part of this will also require multiple storage containers to hold it all.
4 Settle Somewhere Safe
A nice home with a bed and plenty of supplies is a dream that most players dream of. Instead of being a nomad, wandering the lands in hopes to find somewhere to lay their head isn't the life for everyone. New players may be tempted to build a home in the first place they find that seems safe. This is okay, but the better idea is to settle somewhere near the center of the map. The center of the map offers some good resources that will always be close by. This will be important for players who want to build up their supplies.
3 Don't Build Too Big
While yes, a home is nice, it shouldn't be too big right off the bat. Once a player finds a place to settle down, they should focus on creating a house that is small. Building a small house won't require many resources and it will keep the player safe from outside threats.
If a player wants a bigger home, they can always add onto their small house later on. It is better to start off small than try to expend a massive number of resources to build an overly large house that won't fully be utilized.
2 Ignoring Stats
Since Conan Exiles is a game where players can level up, it's no surprise that there are stats for players to increase. Of all the stats, there are three that are the most important; Vitality, Encumbrance, and Strength. Strength is necessary for players to deal more damage. Vitality is important for survival since it increases the player's health, and Encumbrance is needed to help the player carry more items. Each of these stats needs to be focused on early on to help them survive in the wild.
1 Don't Carry Valuables
New players might be tempted to carry all their items on them, but much like in other survival games, is a mistake. Running around the wilds, players are bound to run into other players, animals, and NPCs that will want to kill them. Keep valuables safe at home and not in the inventory in case someone comes in for a kill. If a player can't defend themselves, they will lose all the hard-earned items that they scrounged the environment for.
