Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare's season 4 brought players two of the best weapons in the game plus a slew of new maps, and now midway through the season there has been another huge content drop. This update brings balancing changes to several weapons, including the Warzone favorite GRAU 5.56, but the most exciting part of the update is the addition of a brand new sniper rifle, the Rytec AMR. The Rytec has some unique characteristics that will allow it to excel in Warzone in particular.

The Rytec AMR is an "experimental" anti-material rifle, meaning it is more suited to taking out vehicles and kill streaks than just sniping players, for which many of the other snipers and DMRs would be a better choice. The ability to use massive .50 caliber rounds is par for the course, but it also has 25x59mm explosive and thermite ammunition, which makes it one of the most unique and powerful weapons in the game. It won't dominate in normal PvP, but when it comes to taking out utility in Warzoneit may just be the perfect option.

Rytec AMR Attachments for Warzone

The Rytec AMR seems to be loosely based on a real-world Barrett anti-material rifle, and as such, isn't so much a sniper rifle as a weapon specifically built to disable vehicles and ordinance. The gun is not made to take out enemy combatants; rather, it is aimed to destroy helicopters, buggies, UAVs, and anything that flies or rolls on the ground. In meta-gaming terms, the Rytec is meant for Warzone, where vehicles are a lot more prevalent and a slow, long-range, high damage weapon will be viable. Bringing the Rytec to hardcore will end in nothing but a grueling challenge.

The Rytec doesn't have too many attachments, but the ones it does have are all purpose-built to make it a beast at what it does. The most important muzzle device is the Suppressor, which will be integral to maintaining even a modicum of stealth. As for barrels, the FTAC Seven-straight will boost range and recoil control, while the 448mm dictator will improve handling, which isn't as important in Warzone. The XRK Harbinger has an integral muzzle brake that decreases recoil to almost nothing, but also prevents attaching a silencer, making it a tough trade-off.

The most important attachments by far are the ammunition types. Experimental explosive and thermite rounds push this weapon from just cool to meta-defining with their ability to annihilate CoD vehicles. The thermite rounds are the best option. They stick to the surface they hit, burning through armor over time and dealing damage in a small radius. Thermite rounds make recoil and fire rate worse, but AOE damage over time is just too good to pass up. The burning damage to players is pretty minimal, but in hardcore, it will still kill near instantly. In Warzone, it will at least do some damage while it burns up an enemy's car.

Optics are always up to preference, but a variable-zoom thermal optic is available, and is likely the best choice. The Tac laser is an option, but isn't great for Warzone, while the weapon has the normal array of handling-improving stocks and grip tapes. The underbarrel bipod is a great choice, as it will also reduce the hefty recoil from thermite and explosive rounds. Those rounds move a bit slowly, making it harder to lead shots, but they are still far too fast for a trophy system to disable. The Rytec might just be the weapon to bring in lieu of a launcher now.

Best Rytec AMR Setups for Warzone

To unlock the Rytec AMR, players will need to do a lot of quickscoping. While they won't need to focus on quickscoping once they've got it, the best ADS-speed focused build for the Rytec includes the 448mm Dictator barrel, thermite rounds, Stippled grip tape, STOVL Tac-wrap stock, and the Tac laser. A smaller optic can also help a bit with ADS speed, but there is nothing more satisfying that blowing away opponents with explosive or thermite rounds with a well-timed quickscope.

The best AMR setup for Warzone is a dual-power thermal scope, the AMR Suppressor, the Seven-straight barrel, a bipod, and thermite rounds. This loadout has very slow ADS speeds, but has a strong mix of recoil control, range, and at least a bit of stealth. For a slightly more balanced, speed oriented build, a lighter optic, suppressor, Seven-straight barrel, thermite or explosive rounds, and STOVL Tac-wrap stock will do just fine with a bit more recoil but far better handling. Opting for the standard scope allows for using the bipod, which can mitigate a lot of recoil.

If recoil is that much of an issue, the AMR can gain truly staggering accuracy and recoil control though. This build loses out on stealth, but stealth might not be necessary with a giant flame-shooting sniper rifle that can nail every shot with almost no recovery time. A thermal dual-power optic, XRK Harbinger barrel, bipod, thermal or explosive ammo, and rubberized grip tape will provide the utmost in control, making the Rytec feel more like a DMR than the explosion-hurling monstrosity it really is.

In the future, Call of Duty fans might hope for a true sniper rifle with a caliber smaller than .50, but a higher ammo count and better bullet velocity and recoil. For now though, a solid anti-material rifle is a great addition, acting almost like a replacement for a launcher in a balanced Warzone squad.
