Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is looking to be an interesting game, as it seems to be delivering a style of game that a lot of Marvel fans will enjoy. A Mass Effect-like experience with planet exploration, mission-changing dialogue choices, and a singleplayer focus, it seems to be checking all the right boxes. It also features some awesome character designs, the coolest of which may be Gamora.

While Rocket Raccoon looks just like his MCU counterpart apart from a Groot-shaped Goatee, Gamora’s design in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is entirely different from the live action version. While this is far from a bad thing, it could be off-putting for those who only know the version of the character that was seen on the big screen. Still, it does help separate the game from the movies, with Gamora’s unique look helping to give the game a lot more personality. With her personality being a bit different as well, she seems to be the most changed from the MCU version.

Gamora’s Character Design In The Guardians of the Galaxy Games And MCU Movies

Gamora’s look in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a bit more reserved than her comic book counterpart, as it drops her white armor in favor of thin, purple outfit. Her hair is also entirely purple, which is different from her comic book counterpart’s green locks. On top of this, she has completely green skin, getting rid of the yellow marks around her eyes. Overall, her movie look is more grounded in realism than it is in the comics, with the assassin-turned-hero being more akin to a human than an alien from another planet.

In Eidos Montreal’s version of the Guardians, however, Gamora looks much more like her comic book counterpart. The most noticeable thing is her white armor set, which sees her covered head to toe in the protective gear. She also sports shorter hair, a look that she has been seen with often in some of her more recent comic book appearances. Lastly, she is incredibly tall in the game, keeping her impressive height from the comic books intact.

However, Eidos Montreal is doing a bit more to help its take on Gamora stand apart, as it is not just a direct copy from the comics. While she has marks around her eyes, they are black instead of yellow, making this version of the character feel fresh. Further, her hair is a blend of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and the comics. While it keeps the shortness from the books, it is highlighted with a different color in the game. However, instead of the purple, Gamora dons some red tips at the end of her hair. The look is great overall, as all the pieces complement each other to make her look like a fierce fighter.

Gamora’s Personality In The Guardians of the Galaxy Games And MCU Movies

As for Gamora’s personality, she seems a lot more serious in the game than she does in the films. While this could change if the game embraces her relationship with Star Lord, as he mellows her out in a lot of ways, she seems a lot more straight-faced than the other members of the crew. This shows clearly in her dialogue from the Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy gameplay demo, as Gamora makes her case for selling Groot over Rocket rather bluntly. She also keeps quiet in combat, keeping her banter to a minimum as she slices through foes with her sword.

Her stiffness is hardly a bad thing, though, as a team that is as comical as the Guardians needs to have a strict character to balance things out. While she still makes a dig at Peter near the end of the gameplay, she will likely be used to point out just how weird the other Guardians can be. With Drax being a lot more like the movie version in terms of his humor, Gamora is the only viable option for this role. Fortunately, it seems like she will work very well in the position, as there is a lot to like about this portrayal so far. While it remains to be seen if the game will redeem Square Enix and Marvel in the eyes of fans, it does seem poised to deliver a strong version of Gamora.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled to release on October 26 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
