This year has seen a number of classic real-time strategy/tactics games return to modern consoles, from Petroglyph Studios' Command and Conquer Remastered Collection to Kalypso Media's Commandos 2 HD Remaster. The latter, a revival of Pyro Studios' Commandos 2: Men at War from 2001, released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One this January. It will also be available on Nintendo Switch starting December 4.

Kalypso put out a trailer for the Switch port of Commandos 2 HD Remaster on its YouTube channel yesterday, boasting an "improved interface" for the handheld hybrid console while showing off how its graphics have been updated for the rerelease. After the announcement, a livestream was held on Twitch so two members of Kalypso Media could show off the latest version.

Unlike Command and Conquer, which takes an alternate look on history and warfare thanks to the introduction of an alien mineral called Tiberium, Commandos 2 is rooted in real-world events as the story of Allied soldiers taking on covert ops during World War 2. However, as pointed out by a Vice review published in February, the game received criticisms for its host of bugs at launch and for removing Nazi and Japanese iconography to comply with German censorship laws.

The remastered game retails for $19.99 and will be available in both digital and physical forms on Switch. In the meantime, Kalypso Media has other titles undergoing development, with dictatorial management simulation game Tropico 6 also preparing to launch on Switch tomorrow.

Commandos 2 HD Remaster is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A Nintendo Switch version releases December 4, 2020.
