In an interview with Den of Geek, former Doctor Who actor Colin Baker hinted at a return to the spoof The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot special that was produced for the show's 50th anniversary celebrations in 2013. "I’ve spoken to Peter [Davison], Paul [McGann] and Sylvester [McCoy] about it, and they’re all up for it. If it happened, we’d do it.”

Speaking at Edinburgh's Capital Sci-Fi Con about the spiritualism of Doctor Who, the Sixth Doctor actor Colin Baker was asked about the possibility of The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot coming back for the 60th anniversary in 2023 and seemed keen at the idea. ‘That was lovely doing that. Everyone did it for nothing. So a sequel, going back to the same well, [...] we would have to do it on a more commercial basis and the BBC probably wouldn’t let us do that."

Written and directed by Fifth Doctor actor Peter Davison, The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot was a comedy special that saw the former Doctors Davison, Colin Baker and McCoy protesting at the BBC TV Centre at not being asked to reprise their roles for the 50th anniversary special 'Day of the Doctor'. The 30-minute romp was filled with cameos from former assistants such as Sophie Aldred (Ace), Carol Anne Ford (Susan Foreman) and Louise Jameson (Leela) as well as fans such as British comedian Frank Skinner and Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson.

But when asked about the fourth, and longest serving, Doctor Tom Baker appearing in 'The Day of the Doctor,' Colin Baker (no relation) bristled at the mention of his name. Colin replied "for me, it was a good story, then all of a sudden they put Tom in, because it was Tom, and we could all go, 'Ahhhh, Tom.' You stop believing in the story. ...and also, we were all a little bit miffed, Tom did it longer than anybody else, but do you have to rub our faces in that all of the time?"

Tom Baker played the Doctor from 1974-1981, longer than any other actor to have the role before or since. His version of the Doctor is perhaps the immediately recognizable, with his enormous scarf and robot dog companion. For many fans of the pre-reboot version of the show, Tom Baker is synonymous with Doctor Who, a fact not lost on the actors who came after him.

Colin Baker played the sixth incarnation of the role from 1984 to 1986 where during his time on the show it was almost cancelled and, more controversially, Baker was fired. When asked to return for 7th Doctor's Sylvester McCoy regeneration scene, Colin Baker refused, however he has since regretted the decision. Talking at the BFI to promote the release of the season 23 Blu-ray box set, Baker said “I forgot about [the fans], sorry. I was being brutally selfish at the time and I just felt annoyed. Because I loved that part… and I thought I had more to offer.”

Classic Doctor Who is available to stream on BritBox and the 2005 revival is available on HBO Max.
