Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for their upcoming Souls-like Code Vein. The trailer announces the release of the demo for Code Vein which players can download now and try out now.

Code Vein puts an anime skin on the Dark Souls formula. The game seems keen on capturing the style of the super-difficult Dark Souls gameplay, all of the way down to the big weapons, the twisting level design, and the gothic horror tone. Code Vein's plot features sentient vampires called Revenants who battle against vampire-monsters called Lost. While Code Vein looks a lot like the Souls games, it will add some very unique changes to the formula.

The game features a deep integration of co-op that players can use to curb the difficulty a little bit. Players in Code Vein can use its multiplayer features to call on help from other players in the world to take on challenges together. Folks who want to play through the entire game with a friend can do so and the game seems built around having a companion along for the ride. Those who don't want to play online can summon an AI controlled companion to fight by their side for the duration of the story.

Bandai Namco hasn't provided too many details about what players can expect to do in the demo or how long it will last, but this trailer gives some hints. Players will have access to the game's character creation feature in order to build their own protagonist for the adventure. After that it looks as if players will have the opportunity to take on the opening sections of the game. The developers did not say if the demo would include any of the game's bosses, although the last trailer teased Code Vein's snake-tailed butterfly boss.

Code Vein went through a lengthy development process. Bandai Namco originally revealed the game back at E3 2018 and announced that it would come that year, but it got pushed back. The trailers excited fans of anime and Dark Souls who couldn't wait to see a new developer's take on the popular formula. This demo will offer most folks their first chance to jump in and see how the game has turned out. The game had a network stress test in the past, but for this demo, it has been opened up. Anyone who has a PlayStation 4 or an Xbox One can go and try it out.

Code Vein releases September 27, 2019, on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
