Code Vein has been forever marked as the anime edition of Dark Souls, and for good reason. The vast apocalyptic landscape and dungeons hold dangerous bosses that can be just as tough if not tougher than any Dark Souls boss. Code Vein excels in creating memorable bosses that can put up a fight against even the most skilled players.

Not all bosses are created equal, however, and multiple bosses (including endgame bosses) can be easily defeated without so much as breaking a virtual sweat. These bosses don't tarnish the good name of the game, but they do leave you questioning why they were included.

Updated June 16th, 2021 By Aden Carter: Code Vein is still one of the more popular Dark Souls-style games. Since its release, there have been three DLCs released for the game that each offers their own new brand of difficulty. Each DLC comes with harder bosses, new items, and more Blood Codes. Players can gain access to these new DLCs once they progress far enough into the game. They can access them through the game's dungeon system; the Depths. The map items can be discovered in the Crypt Spire area just after the location of the Cannoneer and Blade Bearer fight.

10 Invading Executioner

Code Vein - Invading Executioner
  • 13,340 Haze
  • Unlocks Assassin's Sickle
  • Unlocks Mia as a companion
  • Has 20% Fire resistance in phase 2

The Invading Executioner flips and spins around the battlefield with the grace of a ballerina on steroids. She rises from the water and quickly seeks to destroy you. It obviously isn't bad enough that you have to traverse through waist-high water and tons of tough enemies before reaching her.

She can hit like a truck and slide across the battlefield multiple times with amazing speed. Caster builds usually have an easier time with her with their use of ranged attacks. It is harder to stay up close to this boss as she will use multiple spin maneuvers that can easily drain your health bar.

9 Butterfly Of Delirium

Butterfly of Delirium boss in Code Vein
  • 2,800 Haze
  • Attacks mainly using poison
  • Susceptible to Fire damage

The Butterfly of Delirium is difficult because of how early it appears in Code Vein. This boss resembles a butterfly and loves to shoot poison across the arena. Like the Invading Executioner, the Butterly of Delirium will zoom across the arena. These attacks can be deadly, especially this early on in the game.

The poison can also chip a player's health away quickly if they aren't paying attention. Another issue is the lack of healing items this early in the game. Players will quickly use them up if they don't get attuned to the boss's attack patterns.

8 The Queen's Knight

Code Vein - The Queen's Knight
  • 32,900 Haze
  • Weak against Ice, Lightning, and Fire
  • Immune to Inhibit

The Queen's Knight resides in the memory of your character and can be very tough to defeat. He has a lot of fast attacks that strike horizontally and aren't very easy to dodge. This boss also has multiple phases that increase the difficulty the longer the fight progresses.

In phase two, he will use more shield attacks that hit very hard and also jump into the air for a slam attack. This attack is not easy to dodge and is also hard to time since he mostly disappears from view.

7 Hellfire Knight

Hellfire Knight boss in Code Vein
  • Weak to lightning damage
  • Immune to Slow, Stun, and Venom

This boss was added in the Hellfire Knight DLC. The key to this fight boils down to understanding the Hellfire Knight's move set. His attack patterns come off as tricky and unpredictable at first because of the way he jumps around the battlefield. One of the biggest tips is to stay close to him and watch his attacks closely.

One of the reasons this boss can be especially difficult is because he is a tank. This boss can take a ton of hits before he eventually goes down. Get ready for a stamina battle.

6 Cannoneer and Blade Bearer

Code Vein - Cannoneer and Blade Bearer
  • 76, 272 Haze
  • Cannoneer is weak to Ice damage
  • Blade Bearer is weak to Fire damage
  • Both are weak to Venom, Inhibit, Slow, and Stun

Uncannily echoing Dark Souls' own Ornstein and Smough are the Cannoneer and Blade Bearer. These two bosses fight you together just like the aforementioned iconic duo, with one being fast-paced and in your face while the other sticks back and attacks you from a distance unless you get too close.

It is easier to do this fight with an ally or another player so that you can each focus on one of the two baddies. The Blade Bearer loves to hit hard with multiple ice-based spells and sword attacks. The Cannoneer focuses on using ranged attacks unless someone is fighting him head-on. During this time he will perform slams and other various fire attacks to keep both players on their toes.

5 Lord Of Thunder

Lord of Thunder boss in Code Vein
  • Weak to Ice damage
  • Weak to Venom
  • Immune to Inhibit, Slow, and Stun

Some players say that the Lord of Thunder is one of the most annoying bosses because of the varying degrees of attacks that he can perform. Some of these attacks can deal massive damage and leave a player on the brink of death.

Be careful when the Lord of Thunder takes a stroll around the arena, as during this time, the boss will release electric orbs that can instantly kill a player or their allies if they get hit. For the most part, this boss's attack patterns are easy to learn, they are just easy to get hit by if a player is not careful enough.

4 Gilded Hunter

Code vein - Gilded Hunter
  • 65,660 Haze
  • Resistant to all elemental damage types
  • Resistant to Stun

The Gilded Hunter is a very challenging boss and is considered one of the hardest in the game. This boss uses a mixture of both physical and AOE-style magic attacks. This boss could be thought of as a DPS race due to the speed with which it can end your character's life.

The Gilded Hunter attacks very fast and isn't afraid to jump after you if you try to escape his onslaught of attacks. He typically attacks multiple times in a row, with very little room in between attacks to collect yourself and attack back. Expert dodging is definitely needed in this fight.

3 Juzo Mido

Juzo mido boss in Code Vein
  • 152,544 Haze
  • Resistant to all elemental damage types
  • Immune to Stun
  • Can be affected by Poison and Inhibit

Juzo Mido appears directly following the Cannoneer and Blade Bearer boss fight in the Crypt Spire. Judged by players as one of the toughest bosses in the game, Juzo can hit hard and kill a player in two hits if they aren't careful.

Juzo is equally resistant to all types of elemental magic and is also immune to stun and poison. The battle only becomes harder once he enters his second phase. During this time, Juzo's attacks become even stronger and weaker players can even get one shot.

2 Virgin Born

Code Vein Virgin Born
  • 182,000 Haze
  • Highly resistant to all elemental damage types
  • Weak to physical attacks
  • Immune to Venom, Stun, Slow, and Inhibit

The Virgin Born can be the final boss in the game depending on what ending you are going for. This boss can prove to be quite the handful as well, with multiple AOE-style attacks and hard-hitting physical attacks that can deplete your health bar extremely fast.

This boss also has a harder-to-hit move where it jumps into the air and fires missiles down on you from above. Hard-hitting weapons are recommended for this boss because magic is almost useless.

1 Frozen Empress

Frozen Empress boss in Code Vein
  • Weak to Fire damage
  • Weak to Venom
  • Immune to Inhibit, Slow, and Stun

The most difficult DLC boss is the Frozen Empress. She has a wild attack pattern that is hard to keep track of. Oftentimes, her attacks can appear to be completely unpredictable. She can summon crystals that, when buffed, can be devastating to a player.

The blue crystal can generate ice pillars around the battlefield and shoot ice crystals at the player and their allies. The red crystal buff the boss's defenses and attacks along with giving the Frozen Empress a constant blizzard effect that swirls around her.
