Like most of the other games in the franchise, Call of Duty: World War II's campaign is only a small part of the package. It is a lucky thing too; despite the high quality accompanying the single-player story, they are generally short experiences ranging from four to six hours in length.
While one may be tempted to put the game away for good and forget about it once the credits roll on the World War II narrative, it offers plenty of reasons to keep it on the hard drive just a little while longer. While not everybody will enjoy every entry below, most can find at least one reason to continue playing the 2017 historical first-person shooter.
10 Collect All The Mementos
Despite the campaign's linearity, levels all hold their tiny secrets. Mementos are scattered throughout every mission for players to uncover.
These are typically historical artifacts from the time. Thirty-three exist in all, and some are particularly difficult to spot, even if they are right in front of the player's face. Some may appreciate the challenge of the hunt, while others will want to use a guide.
9 Beat It On A Harder Difficulty
Odds are most players do not try their hand at veteran during the initial playthrough. Once the credits roll for the first time and one is familiar with the levels, why not bump up the difficulty to spice things up? Even though the player knows what to expect, Veteran difficulty breathes new life into the levels and prevents replays from feeling repetitive. It is also not downright unfair for most experienced players.
8 Perform Every Heroic Action
Heroic Actions occur in each mission and involve either dragging a wounded ally to safety, saving a comrade gripping with an enemy soldier, or taking Nazis prisoner. A couple of them are challenging, especially on higher difficulties where enemies inflict more damage.
While they have little bearing on the gameplay, they contribute to some trophies or achievements.
7 Versus Multiplayer
This article does not need to tell anyone the impact Call of Duty's multiplayer has had on the genre and industry. More than ten years after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the series' competitive offerings are still going strong.
Even after the more recent Modern Warfare, it is easy to find games in WWII. The different time period and Divisions replacing traditional classes gives the multiplayer an entirely different feel than the other recent entries.
6 Zombies
Call of Duty: World At War introduced the Zombies mode, which eventually became a series staple growing its own rabid fanbase. The horror-themed mode is its own campaign and can be played cooperatively.
While the survival gameplay is not for everybody, it is at least worth dipping one's toe into for the novelty. Each entry featuring the mode casts celebrities and notable personalities to voice the playable characters.
5 Explore The Multiplayer HQ
Unique to Call of Duty WWII is the HQ in multiplayer. While traditional menus are still a part of the pre-game experience, players can also explore a physical space with others. Here they can open loot boxes, customize their settings, or simply walk around and appreciate the detail. While a novel feature, most prefer for a multiplayer component to streamline all the details before a match.
4 Learn More About World War II
Call of Duty: WWII only scratches the surface of the international conflict. Most learn about it in school, but one can spend literally years studying this dark chapter in human history. The game focuses on one platoon's journey through Europe, but it is called a World War for a reason.
There was fighting everywhere, and it is valuable to know as much about it as possible. Events from back then still impact today's world.
3 Hunt For Easter Eggs
Even though it is a deadly serious campaign about a tragic era from history, that does not mean it is not chock full of Easter eggs.
The aforementioned HQ in multiplayer is full of little fun secrets to uncover, including the ability to play old Atari 2600 games. The Zombies campaign also includes plenty of secrets, something fans come to look forward to whenever a new game includes the popular mode.
2 Play Other World War II Games
These days there is a dearth of titles taking place during World War II, but this was not always the case.
Go back in time and one can find a treasure trove of games set during the conflict. The Call of Duty franchise started by recreating this time period for a handful of games, only leaving it behind with Call of Duty 4. Before then, the Medal of Honor series was all the rage in the late '90s and early aughts.
1 Hunt For Trophies
While some gamers could care less about these virtual collectibles, some find it as a nice way to spend more time with a favorite titles. Many of these boil down to beating the game and hunting for items, but a few challenge the player to complete parts of missions in a certain way. For those who don't like trophies or achievements, they are easy to ignore and one can even turn off the notifications of receiving them in the options.
