Sick and tired of players hovering above the battlefield in a helicopter stocked with healing items toward the end of a match as they wait for the gas to eliminate their opposition, one Call of Duty: Warzone 2 player has shared a video revealing a helpful technique for countering the sneaky strategy. Unlike an earlier strategy for surviving the encroaching gas in Infinity Ward and Raven Software’s free-to-play shooter, which relied on Warzone 2’s infinite gas mask glitch, this useful approach only requires a bit of battlefield awareness and some high-speed sprinting.

The second venture into the crowded Battle Royale market by developers Infinity Ward and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 arrived on PC and consoles in November 2022 following months of hype. Despite facing some backlash resulting from the game’s numerous technical issues and unpopular changes made to some gameplay mechanics, Warzone 2 has been generally well-received by many players and critics. In addition to the traditional Battle Royale mode, which tasks gamers with being the last player staying as Warzone 2’s gas cloud gradually shrinks the size of the battlefield, the sequel also introduced the new, survival-based DMZ mode.

In a helpful video posted to TikTok, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 player drewd0g shared a handy endgame strategy for players who find themselves surrounded by gas with a well-stocked enemy hovering high above. After illustrating how hard it can be to shoot down an enemy helicopter in such a situation, drewd0g reminds viewers that gas masks don’t degrade inside backpacks in Warzone 2 before doing a mad dash outside the circle and stocking up on gas masks and self-revive kits from the bodies strewn about the battlefield. As the enemy in the helicopter waits above for the gas to deliver an easy win, drewd0g uses multiple gas masks and self-revives to eventually outlast their opponent and take home a win.

Several commenters responding to the video appreciated drewd0g sharing the helpful strategy, although others pointed out that using it effectively required being in an area conveniently surrounded by item-laden bodies. One viewer responding to the clip shared a story of using a similar strategy in a recent game only to be kicked from the server after their victory. Frustrated at the unsportsmanlike strategy of hiding in a helicopter and hoping for a win, other users suggested that Warzone 2 disable vehicles entirely in the final circle.

While drewd0g’s unorthodox strategy definitely requires a certain amount of luck to pull off, it could help make the difference between a last-second win and inevitable defeat for some players. And unless Warzone 2 Season 2 brings some nerfs for the hovering hoarders, it just may be the best way to hold out against a helicopter.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
