Coca-Cola has sought to reveal to the world what exactly a pixel tastes like with its latest release in its Creations line. Unfortunately, everyone will have to wait for a taste as it will be gamers' Fortnite avatars that will get to try it first.

Coca-Cola has announced the latest in its line of Creations soft drinks, an 80s arcade-inspired beverage called Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte "Pixel-Flavored" which Coke calls "An 8-Bit Pixel experience." The soft drink launch is accompanied by a code for Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte Island created in Fortnite and will appear in the game before its released in the real world.

The new Coca-Cola soft drink has been created in collaboration with gaming and lifestyle organization PWR and will be introduced first in the metaverse of Fortnite. The real-life counterpart and physically consumable version will be released in limited quantities from May 2, 2022, and will be purchasable through the Coca-Cola Creations website.

The digital version of Byte will come first to an "individually created Fortnite Creative experience" named Pixel Point. The in-game island created by PWR features four multiplayer mini-games named The Castle, The Escape, The Race, and The Tower. One of these games even takes place inside a classic glass Coke bottle. Players can play on the Pixel Point map now by entering this Fortnite Creative code: 8565-0287-3178.

These mini-games will only be available for a limited time. Additionally, there will be an augmented reality game that can be accessed via the Coca-Cola Creations website that will feature a leader board to compare completion times on social media. It should be noted that Pixel Point and the promotion of Byte have no official connection to Fortnite or developer Epic Games.

Coca-Cola certainly isn't the first brand to enter and advertise in the metaverse and joins an increasing number of companies that want their products represented within video games. Red Bull energy drinks have been active in the sponsorship of esports events for years, and Monster Energy appeared prominently in the game Death Stranding. Mobile providers Verizon and battery makers Energizer even got in on the product placement act back in the original 2010 release of Alan Wake.

Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte Pixel-Flavored joins the previously released flavor Starlight which was promoted with the help of the singer and songwriter Ava Max. Byte will be sold in 12-ounce cans in packs of two, one for consumption and the other for collecting. Coca-Cola plans to release more limited-edition Creations throughout the year.

Fortnite is free-to-play now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
