It’s no secret that Cobra Kai has been a big hit since it released on YouTube Red (now YouTube Premium) back in 2018, as the Karate Kid reboot surprisingly managed to rack up numbers that could rival the big shows from streaming services like Netflix at the time.

Another successful season in 2019 prompted Netflix to acquire the series earlier this year in a move that proved itself to be well worth the effort, given the show quickly rose up the streaming rankings in early September, becoming the most watched show in the United States during that period.

As it turns out, Netflix wasn’t the only one interested in Cobra Kai. GameMill Entertainment’s interactive take on the series is finally here in the form of Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues, a beat’em up adventure featuring voice acting work from Ralph Macchio and William Zabka.

Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues is the first video game using the lovable characters from the franchise since 1987’s The Karate Kid for the NES. The game is the product of a collaboration with Cobra Kai’s showrunners and features a soundtrack made by the same composer, Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson, who aimed to recreate music reminiscent of old beat’em ups like Streets of Rage, Final Fight and Double Dragon which they consider a “huge influence to the show’s sound”.

While Cobra Kai has been well received by both critics and audiences, one thing it doesn’t have going for it is length, with only two seasons consisting of 10 roughly half hour episodes each. As Cobra Kai remains among the most watched shows right now, it’s clear that there’s a thirst for more Karate Kid that can’t wait to be quenched until January 2021, when new episodes go up on Netflix.

For that purpose, Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues promises to deliver new stories from the viewpoint of Daniel LaRusso or Johnny Lawrence. No word yet on whether the story explores the characters’ past or what the gameplay feels like, but the trailer looks every bit like what one would expect a Cobra Kai game to be like.

Cobra Kai is available on Netflix with season 3 scheduled for release on January 8, 2021.

Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues is now available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game’s soundtrack is available on most music streaming services.
