In a world where reboots and revivals are more commonplace than face masks (a sentence that should never have made sense), it's easy to just sort of gloss over any new ones coming out. But sometimes, that trend of everybody getting a do-over can be a tool to undo great injustices of the past. Depending on where one stands on the sense of humor spectrum, the upcoming new take on 1-season-wonder Clone High might very well be one of those injustices, and the creators can't wait to make it happen.

Chris Miller, one half of the superstar comedy director duo Lord and Miller, decided to tease hungry fans with just the tiniest bit of info as production on Clone High slowly chugs along. As one of the creators of the original series, Miller is arguably more excited to get back to his old cartoon buddies than many of the loyal viewers, so when he posted a little snippet of a certain script to his Twitter page, his attempt at a coy caption was positively dripping with his own anticipation. The original Clone High, which featured a high school class of cloned historical figures, only saw its greatest success long after it was canceled. So it's not difficult to see this as a sort of vindication for its creators.

"About to do a table read," he simply said, sharing a title page from an unmistakable script. Underneath the series name, the page features the cheeky title "Let's Try This Again," denoting a rather comically downplayed sentiment regarding how badly both he and his directing partner Phil Lord have wanted to come back to the show ever since its 2003 cancellation. Back in 2014, they even joked that "our entire career has just been about getting Clone High back on the air." Obviously, only one of them said that, but it's accredited to them both. Or maybe they both said it in unison, like some sort of comedy hive mind. That would be cool.

The page also features the writing credits for both Lord and Miller, but also for new series showrunner Erica Rivinoja. Rivinoja has an impressive resume of her own, working as a producer on South Park and the Lord & Miller series The Last Man on Earth as well as a writer for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and the original Clone High series. So apparently they intend to keep the business in the family, which should make eager fans even more excited.

At the moment, there's still no confirmation on when the new series will release, only that it will do so on HBO Max. If it ends up doing well, then Harley Quinn may not be the best series on the service for long. (Why yes, there is a touch of bias there.) There's also no word on who among the original show's stellar voice cast will be returning. So while it seems like a no-brainer to bring back Will Forte, Nicole Sullivan, and the rest of the gang, nothing is set in stone.

Still, seeing Miller's excitement (at least in his own fun little way) should be enough to inspire a bit more anticipation from those who might have thought this was just another cash grab. But to be fair, it's hard to see a revival of a 1 season show that was canceled almost 20 years ago as some big get rich quick scheme. There's got to be some real love for the material there.

For anybody interested in this amazingly bizarre series, the original Clone High season can be streamed on Paramount Plus.
