Going into Nintendo’s Direct Mini: Partner Showcase, few had any real expectations. Many were hoping that Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal would be confirmed for the Switch, and they were, but the show was also filled with other notable titles. In fact, for Mega Man fans, this show had a huge announcement.

Capcom released the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection back in 2020, and since at least then, fans have been begging Capcom to release a legacy collection version of the Mega Man: Battle Network games. This series is arguably one of Mega Man’s most popular runs thanks to its unique approach to grid gameplay and unique stories.

Now, Capcom officially announced the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, which consists of all ten games. This means fans will get access to the following:

  • Battle Network
  • Battle Network 2
  • Battle Network 3 Blue and White
  • Battle Network 4 Blue Moon and Red Sun
  • Battle Network 5 Team Colonel and Team Protoman
  • Battle Network 6 Cybeast Gregar and Falzar

This collection comes with a few bonuses, including a huge gallery of illustrations and a music mode. The Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection will release in 2023, sold physically as a single volume or digitally as two separate volumes. It’s not exactly certain what it means by volumes, but either way, it’ll launch on PC (via Steam), PS4, and Switch.

This means fans have a long wait on their end, but it’ll likely be worth it. After all, each game is in the ballpark area of 15-25 hours each, and they all have their own unique version exclusives to it like the split Pokemon titles. For example, in Team Colonel and Team Protoman, the first boss in each version is different, and obviously, the team players join is ultimately different.

What’s more, while it all remains to be seen, there’s a good chance that these Game Boy Advance ports to other platforms translate well. Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection reviewed well, as it successfully translated them to other platforms, so it stands to reason that Capcom is capable of a repeat performance. There’s no doubt many fans will be eager to take on the roles of Lan and Mega Man again, across their various journeys.
