In Clash Royale, the MOBA and card battling game from Supercell, players can take part in a game mode called Draft Challenge. In Draft Challenge, players build a deck by choosing between two cards. The card that's chosen is added to the player's deck and the other is added to the opponent's hand.

Draft Challenges add some unpredictability to the hugely popular mobile game and they often come with great rewards. However, because players are unable to build a deck before going into the match and any Clash Royale card could potentially show up, it can be difficult to win at Draft Challenge unless players have a smart strategy.

Pick a Win Condition

In Clash Royale, there are cards that the community describes as "win conditions." Win conditions are cards that you can build a winning strategy around as they may be incredibly fast, incredibly strong, or incredibly difficult to deal with. By failing to choose a win condition, a player will be much more likely have a scattershot approach and a deck that doesn't make any sense. A deck of high damage dealing cards isn't worth much if they all use huge amounts of Elixir.

Any card can show up in Draft Challenge but some popular win condition cards are the Giant, Hog Rider, X-Bow, Golem, PEKKA, Miner, and Sparky.

Pick the Counter Card

Another strategy that works in Clash Royale's Draft Challenge is to pick the counter card. When presented with two cards, it's better to pick the one that counters the other as it means that you'll have a guaranteed way to stop the other card from being effective if your opponent plays it.

So, if Draft Challenge gave you the choice between the Prince or a Skeleton Army, choose the Skeleton Army. The Prince may move quickly and deal great damage but his individual lance attacks are little match from the many pointy blades held by the Skeleton Army.

Choose A Spell

Choosing a spell can help you win at Draft Challenge in Clash Royale if all of the other strategies have gone down the drain. The opponent may unexpectedly counter your win condition but with a spell, you can deal damage to their towers and potentially get a victory. Some of the best spells to pick are Fireball, Zap, and Poison which do damage without needing another unit. In comparison, the spell Rage makes troops attack and move faster but it's only effective if there are troops in its radius.

Pick Cards With Hard Counters

Players who want to win at Draft Challenge can also pick cards with hard counters. If the opponent doesn't have the very small selection of cards that counters that card, it's going to be very difficult for them to deal with it.

One card with a hard counter that is favored by many Clash Royale Draft Challenge players is Sparky. The unit which shoots powerful bolts of electricity is countered by air troops as Sparky cannot fire in the air or by the two-punch strategy of dropping a swarm unit and then a high DPS unit. However, if the opponent doesn't have these, Sparky could quickly take their towers out.

Pick a Card You Hate Defending

It may be surprising, but picking a card that you hate defending can be an effective way of winning a Draft Challenge match. This is mostly because psychology as the knowledge that such a difficult card is in the opponent's deck could harm your strategy. You'll hold powerful cards back in anticipation of the card you hate or you may give up before the game really gets going, thinking that it's a loss right from the jump.

By choosing and playing with the card more, it also helps you learn how it's countered and how it's used effectively. This can be great education for the next time someone uses it against you.
