The Civilization 6 New Frontier Pass has been regularly incorporating content for fans of the turn-based strategy game since May 2020. The most recent DLC civilization added late last year was the science-focused Babylon led by Hammurabi, which followed Maya, Gran Colombia, Ethiopia, Byzantium, and Gaul. Today, Firaxis Games announced the game's fifth DLC will add Vietnam to this list.

Vietnam will be a culture and terrain-focused civilization, according to writer Andrew Alan Johnson, who said it is, "Known for its dense forests, fertile flood plains, one of the healthiest cuisines in the world, and a rich, innovative culture." In a first-look video outlining the Civilization 6 DLC, developers also showcased a new District type called Preserves that improves the value of surrounding tiles.

The second major addition in this expansion releasing January 28 is Kublai Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, as a "jolly but ruthless" optional leader for both China and Mongolia. Lead producer Amanda Bonacorso said Kublai Khan will create "new and unique" opportunities for both civilizations, but only teases that details will be shared in the future.

The update will also add a new game mode called "Monopolies and Corporations" that focuses on winning via capitalism by farming luxury resources (such as Vietnam's coffee beans), manufacturing products, and eventually cornering the market to fuel stock exchanges, increase gold yields, and attract tourists. After this, there is one more DLC set in Civilization 6's New Frontier Pass scheduled to release this March, so fans will have to wait and see what exciting ventures are added next.

Civilization 6 is available now for Linux, Mobile, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
