The original creator of Chucky, the murderous children's doll, is still cranking out new installments in the classic horror franchise, and his latest project is a brand new series for SYFY. As the project is being led by Don Mancini, who kicked the whole franchise off with the original Child's Play, the new series will be in continuity with the original films, and the project has just recently started filming.

Not only is the series going to maintain continuity with the old films, as opposed to the recent Child's Play reboot from 2019, but plenty of actors will also be reprising their roles. Brad Dourif will be voicing Chucky and Jennifer Tilly is returning as Chucky's wife, Tiffany Valentine. Other actors currently announced include Zackary Arthur, Teo Brione, and Devon Sawa, who is playing an unannounced role in the show.

It was Sawa, who previously starred in the original Final Destination film, who broke the news, tweeting that it was his first day on set with Chucky by sharing a promotional image with the caption, "Day one for me on this show with the little fella.” While that seems like a pretty straightforward confirmation, it was posted on April Fools' Day, so people were a little careful about jumping to conclusions, leading Don Mancini himself to directly confirm the news.

So that's about as final as it gets: the Chucky series is officially filming and has a release window of fall 2021. Those who managed to catch the tweet at the time could also tune in to an all-day Child's Play marathon on SYFY in order to celebrate the announcement. While the exact date has yet to be confirmed, it seems the 8-part series will be dropping on the SYFY channel sooner rather than later.

As for the actual details of the plot, a basic synopsis has been given out. The new series revolves around Chucky ending up in a suburban yard sale in a small town, whereupon grisly murders start to plague the area. While things escalate, however, familiar faces from Chucky's past risk exposing the truth behind the murders, and the real history behind the killer doll.

It all sounds like everything a Child's Play fan could hope for, and with any luck, there won't be many production delays holding it back from meeting that fall window. As the production starts spinning up and filming begins in earnest, audiences can expect to see a lot more of Chucky in anticipation of his next big premiere on Syfy
