The Dreamcast renaissance continues over at Sega as the Dreamcast favorite, Chu Chu Rocket! is coming to Apple's iOS devices, the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad on October 28th through the App Store for $4.99 / €3.99 / £2.99 on iPhone/iPod Touch and $6.99 / €5.49 / £3.99 on iPad.

For those who may have missed Chu Chu before, it is a puzzle game where the board is a grid with cats and mice running about. In single player, players must place arrows on the grid to define a path so that the mice, and not the cats make it to the rocket, which serves as the goal. In multiplayer, generally, each player wants to get cats, and not mice, into the other players' rockets. Check out this trailer of the iOS version in action.

Since this re-release is coming on iOS devices, a few changes were made to the controls. In this version, players touch on a tile and swipe in the direction they want the arrow to point. That seems like a pretty elegant solution for controlling the game on a touch-screen device, certainly better than trying to take up screen real-estate with a virtual d-pad or analog control stick. The iOS release also comes packed with multiplayer options. The game will be playable over wi-fi and Bluetooth for up to four players. And Sega has also promised 3G multiplayer capabilities. The iPad version also comes packed with single-system multiplayer where up to four players can play on a single iPad.

While I was not the biggest fan of the Dreamcast original (I have a hard time sitting down and playing puzzle games on home consoles), I do think this will make a great iOS game, assuming the touch controls work as well as they should. Fast-paced puzzle games generally work well on the system and for gaming on the go in general. Tons of levels, plus generous multiplayer options really could make this the go-to puzzle game for a lot of iOS gamers.

What do you think? Did you love the original, or is this chance for you to finally see what so many people raved about for all those years? Are you looking forward to Chu Chu Rocket! on iOS? Let us know in the comments below.
