Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is available now, allowing players to design their own campsites on a smartphone. Fans have been anticipating the release of the mobile game, eager for a chance to make new animal friends. However, not everyone who is playing the game is feeling satisfied.

One high profile Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp player with something to say is Chrissy Teigen, the actress and supermodel. Referring to herself as a "Tom Nook loyalist" and a diehard fan of the Animal Crossing series, Teigen said that the mobile spin-off does not have the same charm of the core series entries. "It lacks the heart. The soul," wrote the model on Twitter, before going on to describe the game as being like "a sandwich with no meat" or "a car with no tires."

In follow up tweets, Teigen then went on to explain exactly why Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp just doesn't feel like the real deal. "[The characters] aren't our friends," she said, "they're jerks. Who makes certain couch demands before visiting someone's house? Then shows a video montage of them sleeping on it." For good measure, Teigen added that she "hates" these characters.

Teigen also admits that she has spent $120 on Leaf Tickets, the premium currency that can be used to get iconic characters such as Tom Nook and K.K. Slider to visit the player's campsite. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp's microtransactions were subject to memes and jokes after the game was first announced, but it seems that Teigen is otherwise unphased by them.

While not everyone will agree with Teigen's criticisms of the game, the replies to the model's tweets seem to suggest that her thoughts struck a chord with at least some Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp players. Some have argued that the characters are not friends or allies and they are just mindless vendors to collect resources from. Some Pocket Camp players have even referred to the gifts given by the anthropomorphic NPCs as 'rent money.'

Unfortunately, this is probably not something that could be fixed with future updates, such as the forthcoming release of new villagers and holiday content. It does seem as though this is just a core design feature. It may be that mobile players play the game less and may spend less time invested in the world and its characters, hence why the spin-off lacks that classic, AC charm. Those feeling let down by Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp may just have to hope that the series will come to the Nintendo Switch and restore things.
