Celebrities have been mostly quiet since Johnny Depp's defamation suit against Amber Heard - who will star in the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom - started. Except if you're a celebrity comedian like Chris Rock.

There are so many details regarding that lawsuit that, from a celebrity's standpoint, it may be difficult to publicly take a side in the matter. However, Rock has definitely taken a side in Depp vs. Heard, and while it was all for the sake of comedy, he certainly did not pull any punches when he spoke his mind on the subject.

In a recent performance in his Ego Death tour, many believed Rock was going to talk about Will Smith slapping him for making fun of Jada Pinkett Smith's hair at the Oscars. Instead, Rock roasted Heard for her actions during her marriage to Depp. More specifically, he roasted her for defecating on Depp's side of their bed, noting how 'crazy' Heard seemingly is from that act by itself. “Believe all women… except Amber Heard,” Rock said. He went on to say that while Heard is attractive, there's no coming back from that act alone. “What the f*** is she on? She s*** in his bed! She’s fine, but she’s not s***ting fine. … She s*** in his bed. Once you s*** in someone’s bed you just guilty of everything. … What the f*** is going on there? And they had a relationship after that. It must be amazing p****. … I’ve been with some crazy b****es but g******it.”

Amber Heard Johnny Depp Trial

Per LAD Bible, the crowd took no offense to Rock's jokes about Heard, apparently erupting in laughter over his bit about her antics. Rock's latest routine makes it the first bit that he has performed without someone coming up to slap him for his remarks since the Oscars. All jokes aside, the fact that no one took issue with Rock's words demonstrates the public's opinion on the matter. Whether you are Team Depp or Team Heard, there's no denying that defecating in someone's bed is a pretty messed up thing to do no matter what intention you have behind it.

Rock's words also have a deeper meaning than simply making a joke. In the past several years, many women have bravely come forward about the various forms of assault, abuse, and harassment that they've suffered at the hands of detestable men. It's brought more awareness to how women are unfairly treated, and nobody is denying that this needs to be remedied. However, just because society is confronting this awful trend as much as it can, it does not mean there aren't opportunists out looking to exploit this narrative for their own personal gain. In the eyes of some, it's becoming more and more apparent that, in this case, Heard is one of these opportunists.

Exploiting a narrative to move up in the world is not something new in this day and age. That's exactly how Joseph McCarthy rose to prominence in the 1950s. He preyed on society's fears of communism by orchestrating witch hunts on politicians who he baselessly claimed were communists. Even if he was eventually thwarted, he caused irreparable, unnecessary damage to many people's lives at the height of his popularity. Getting back to Heard, it is very possible that Depp abused her during their marriage, but more evidence is coming out revealing that the abuse in their marriage was, at the very least, not one-sided.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will premiere in theaters on March 17, 2023.
