While some fans are still wondering whether more Jurassic Park films could possibly make their way to the big screen following the release of Jurassic World Dominion, it appears the upcoming adventure will mark the end for the entire franchise, according to star Chris Pratt.
After two successful box office sequels that sought to propel the franchise in a fresh direction, the upcoming Jurassic World Dominion, the third installment in the Jurassic World sequel trilogy, looks to conclude the entire franchise on a high note. The sequel will take place four years after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, as the dinos are now roaming free in the wilderness and other urban areas, living and hunting alongside humans after escaping from the Lockwood estate.
Sitting down with the Today Show, Pratt has now insisted that after six films, Dominion will be the end of the iconic dino franchise. “It’s 30 years in the making. This is the sixth Jurassic Park film and the end of the franchise," Pratt confirmed. The actor would also go on to discuss his experience working with the original 1993 cast on the new film and how it was a dream of a lifetime. "You’ve got the legacy cast coming back, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, plus the cast of 'Jurassic World'. Our storylines converge in a way that is very much a finale," Pratt continued. "I had no idea I was gonna ever be an actor, and these folks were, like, cemented in my mind as icons. To be working with them, it’s a dream come true."
Other than the thrilling new species of dinos set to make their debut, having Dern, Neill, and Goldblum return is probably one of the most exciting aspects of the new film and one that will hopefully bring the story full circle. The previous two entries have not been the critical successes Universal Studios was hoping for, as many critics and fans criticized the jumbled storylines and lack of compelling characters. However, having Colin Trevorrow return with that experience of already directing a Jurassic film, and seeing what has been presented in the trailers thus far, Jurassic World Dominion is the worthy conclusion that many have been hoping for.
Joining Pratt and the original cast are Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing, DeWanda Wise as Kayla Watts, BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu, Justice Smith as Franklin Webb, Daniella Pineda as Dr. Zia Rodriguez, Campbell Scott as Dr. Lewis Dodgson, Elva Trill as Charlotte Lockwood, and Omar Sy as Barry Sembène. Trevorrow and long-time collaborator Derek Connolly wrote the story, while Emily Carmichael and Trevorrow co-wrote the screenplay.
Jurassic World Dominion is set to release in theatres on June 10, 2022.
