As the release of Thor: Love and Thunder rapidly approaches, Thor star Chris Hemsworth is making it clear that he definitely approves of the film's bad guy, Gorr the God Butcher, played by Marvel Cinematic Universe newcomer Christian Bale.

Gorr the God Butcher made his first appearance in the Marvel Comics back in 2012 in Thor: God of Thunder #1, making him a slightly new character within the vast Marvel universe. The character in the comics loses his grip on reasoning after the tragic loss of his beloved wife and children. Seeking revenge, Gorr sets out to murder all gods, believing that they all sit back and allow suffering to happen before their eyes.

Gorr's first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to happen when Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters. In a recent interview with IGN about the upcoming film, Hemsworth applauds Bale’s performance as Gorr. Hemsworth gushes, “Everything you'd imagine (Christian Bale) would bring to it." He goes on to add, “Nuance and complexity and truth, levity. He's one of my favorite actors working, and I was so excited he agreed to jump on board here. What he's done is that he's definitely one of my favorite villains in the Marvel universe.”

Considering Gorr is a character with such a dark and tragic-comic origin, Hemsworth assures that Bale brings the dark nature to life in Thor: Love and Thunder. “He's hugely intimidating and destructive, but the right amount of heart and truth there and relatable pain that we can attune to or understand ourselves," Hemsworth said. "So it makes it all the more complex when you're trying to figure out what everyone's motivations are."

With the recent Thor: Love and Thunder trailers that have been released for the film, Gorr is definitely depicted in the dark nature of his comic origin. With his gray, almost white face and dark lifeless eyes, it seems that Marvel Studios has done an excellent job bringing to life the idea of Gorr being lifeless after the loss of his family. Fans have even made comparisons between Gorr and Thanos, saying that Gorr looks scarier than Thanos, who in Avengers: Infinity War erased half of all living creatures.

As Thor: Love and Thunder makes its way to theaters in the coming weeks, fans will finally get to see the battle against the Gods and Gorr play out in full, and be able to give their full brutally honest opinions about Bale's performance as the character. However, with Hemsworth already applauding his performance, it is fair to say that fans will definitely have a similar reaction when the film hits theaters.

Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.
