Captain America and Black Widow are reuniting, sort of. Marvel stars Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson will be re-teaming on Ghosted, a new romantic action-adventure film for Apple TV Plus.

Apple TV Plus' Ghosted will be directed by Dexter Fletcher, who helmed Rocketman and finished filming Bohemian Rhapsody, and will be written by Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Evans will produce the film alongside Skydance's Dave Ellison, who is also known for producing the upcoming Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8.

Ghosted, which is still very much early in development, is being compared to other adventure films like Romancing the Stone, Michael Douglas' and Kathleen Turner's 1984 box office hit. Evans and Johansson worked together on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and all three Avengers films, playing the respective roles of Captain America and Black Widow that became instant fan favorites. They look to carry over their on-screen chemistry from those films to this new one. Deadline first reported on Evans and Johansson's new project.

Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow

Johansson also recently signed on to star in Wes Anderson's next film amid a lawsuit against Disney involving contract breaches with Disney Plus' release of Black Widow. Johansson will star alongside Margot Robbie, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Tom Hanks, and Adrien Brody. Production for the film is taking place in Spain. This will be Evans's second time working with Apple, as he also starred in the legal drama Defending Jacob. He will also star alongside Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas in Netflix's upcoming The Gray Man, the new spy thriller from Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo.

Apple TV Plus continues to impress with its high-budget features, having recently filmed Martin Scorsese's western crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon, which will star Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. The streamer is also now in production on Emancipation, a slave drama starring Will Smith and directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Shooter, The Equalizer). Apple TV is also behind Ridley Scott's upcoming drama Kitbag, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Napolean Bonaparte and Jodie Comer as Josephine.

With Ghosted bringing in two stars like Evans and Johansson, who are at the top of their game, and a director with Fletcher's vision, it's clear this could potentially be one of Apple's biggest and most exciting projects to date. Apple TV Plus' other films include Greyhound, a World War II film starring Tom Hanks, and the crime drama Cherry, which is also directed by the Russo Brothers and reunites them with MCU's Spider-Man star Tom Holland.

Ghosted is currently in development.
