A trailer that is scheduled to appear on IGN's Summer of Gaming showcase has leaked and provided some very exciting news. The trailer is for the long awaited sequel to the popular first-person slasher, Chivalry. The trailer has now gone private, but possibly reveals next generation cross-play.

Torn Banner Studios announced Chivalry 2 for PC last year, but now, a screenshot from the leaked trailer indicates that Chivalry 2 will also release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. With the Sony announcements coming soon, this could be a preview of what cross-play will mean for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The screenshot also displays the phrase "Crossplay All Platforms."  This means the game will be optimized for both the current generation consoles and the next generation consoles and players will be able to play across all platforms together.

The screenshot does not mention PC, however, the Epic Games Store logo is displayed with the other platforms. Chivalry 2 is slated to release exclusively on the Epic Games Store for PC, so it could mean that PC will also be included in the cross-play across all platforms. The first Chivalry did not include cross-play with PC so it would be something completely new for the sequel. Because the game will include cross-play on all platforms, questions can be raised about how the game will function across different generation consoles.

The Chivalry 2 announcement trailer released at E3 PC Gaming Show in 2019 and showed off crisp gameplay and some brutal decapitations. Also at the end of the trailer, a large scale battle takes place with many unique soldiers, meaning the PVP will be even bigger before by having up to 64 players in lobbies. When the trailer released, it was expected that the game would be a PC exclusive. Now that the cross-play has been leaked, it will be interesting to see if the new trailer reveals even more new information about the game.

It seems as though both PlayStation and Xbox are preparing for players to slowly transition from the current generation consoles to the next generation. With many games potentially being optimized for both, players will have the option to enjoy new games without buying the new consoles. However, the games will look and perform much better on the newer consoles, possibly enticing players to upgrade. Chivalry 2 may be among the first of the new releases to show off cross-play between generations, so fans will get to see how brutal medieval combat looks on all platforms.

Chivalry 2 releases 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
