Chivalry 2, the epic medieval-themed war simulator, was added to the Xbox Game Pass catalog last week and has so far proven to be a very popular new addition for the service's subscribers. In just four days after Chivalry 2 being available on Xbox Game Pass, the game had already added tons of new players into the action, which is great news considering that it's a multiplayer-only title.

For the uninitiated, Chivalry 2 is a multiplayer hack-and-slash video game developed by Torn Banner Studios and a sequel to 2012's Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. First released in June 2021 on various platforms, Chivalry 2 supports up to 64 players in one match. There is optional crossplay support available, and those who leave it enabled would have the chance to come face-to-face with new knights brought over by Xbox Game Pass.

Via Twitter, the official account for Chivalry 2 announced yesterday that the game has seen over 500,000 new players in under a week since launching on Xbox Game Pass. While Torn Banner didn't reveal the total number of players that Chivalry 2 currently has, it did disclose how well the game was selling. In August last year, Torn Banner said that the game had sold 1 million copies. Then, within 10 days of its release on Steam in June 2022, the game generated a further 300,000 copies sold. Previously, Chivalry 2 on PC only appeared as an Epic Games Store exclusive for a year.

Chivalry 2 being added to Xbox Game Pass came perfectly timed alongside the release of its free major content update. Titled the "Reinforced Update," version 2.6 for Chivalry 2 adds a new map for Team Deathmatch and Free-For-All game modes known as the Hippodrome. It also features new customization options for the Tenosian faction, as well as a new unique weapon: Katars. While players have already had creative freedom when it comes to utilizing almost anything as a weapon in Chivalry 2, the Katars are still noteworthy, seeing that they are the first dual-wielded weapon in the game.

The new resurgence of players, not to mention consistent updates being churned out for free, are a great sign for the entire Chivalry 2 community. Keeping the game alive is key for multiplayer-focused games, such as this, and so far, Chivalry 2 has arguably been doing pretty well in that regard. As for those who are not into gory medieval combat, they can always check out the other new additions coming to the Xbox Game Pass this month.

Chivalry 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
