Chivalry 2's Knight class is built solely for taking blows and dishing them right back out again in close combat. Their stamina depletes at a slower rate when blocking than the other three classes, and they have the highest health pool and armour in the game.

The best Chivalry 2 weapons available to Knights tend to be short-ranged, although there are a few exceptions like spears and poleaxes. The best way to play a Knight, though, is to be unafraid of close combat and take advantage of its short-range, high-damage weapons.

Updated July 2, 2022 by Erik Petrovich: After Chivalry 2 released on Steam the game has seen a steady rise in the playerbase on PC. The game is criminally underrated, as it offers some of the most fun, bombastic, and surprisingly strategic medieval melee combat out there. Of the four classes, the Knight is the most geared for close-quarters fights, though the best Knight weapons in Chivalry 2 sacrifice defense for sheer power. The Battle Axe, for example, hits like a truck but leaves players open with its long attack animation. The Longsword, on the other hand, can be paired with a Shield, though it of course deals far less damage. Be sure to try out all of the options, even the bad ones, to figure out what playstyle works for you.

An Aside For Side Weapons

Chivalry 2 Knight Weapons Ranked Side Secondary

Side weapons are Chivalry 2 weapons that players typically bring out when their primary weapon just won't cut it against specific classes. Players attack noticeably slower wielding certain weapons, particularly the stronger and longer weapons like the Pole Axe. Having a secondary weapon out instead of the primary one can mean getting more hits overall at the cost of power.

Side weapons for the Knight class in Chivalry 2 are comprised of a variety of shorter-range, less powerful melee weapons. When a Knight goes up against a Footman, for example, the slow-to-swing Heavy Mace might not be as effective as a Short Sword at repelling such a fast attacker. Some of the better choices for secondary weapons for the Knight follow.

Sword - Arming Sword, Broadsword

The regular Sword is one of the Knight's choices for a secondary weapon – usually, it's the default choice for players who haven't taken a lot of time to play with other side weapon options. It's by no means a bad option, though, as it's got a good balance between reach and swing speed (for a side weapon).

Morning Star - Brutal Morning Star, Morning Star

The Morning Star is an iconic weapon of the Middle Ages, being a spiked metal ball on top of a long-reaching club. In Chivalry 2, this weapon is useful for Knights who want to duke it out against other heavily armored opponents without having to give up their primary weapon slot.

Mace - Flanged and Blunt Mace

The Mace is a bit different than the Sword because it swings slower at a shorter range, much like its larger Heavy Mace counterpart. However, it makes up for these downsides with an increase in damage per hit. The Mace is a good alternative for fast-swinging primary weapons like the Longsword thanks to its Blunt damage type.

Short Sword - Carlolingian, Katzbalger

The Short Sword is much like the Regular Sword but, of course, with a little bit shorter range. It swings a little bit faster, but overall it's not as useful to the Knight as the longer-reaching Sword. One thing Short Swords have going for them is more unique weapon aesthetics displayed in its two different versions.

Hatchet - Hunting and Utility Hatchet

The Hatchet is a very short-range but fast swinging, chopping secondary weapon. It's considered by many to be far from being Chivalry 2's best Knight weapon, but skilled players can make good use of its rapid attacks even if it means getting uncomfortably close to a target.

One-Handed Spear

One Handed Spear Chivalry 2 Knight Weapons

In Chivalry 2 One-Handed Spears are pretty useful weapons for most classes, but there are better options for Knights. For Archers and Footmen it helps keep opponents at arm's length, but Knights don't need to worry about such things. When paired with a shield, the one-handed spear can help a Knight be a more effective tank for the team.

Ultimately, the best subclass for the One-Handed Spear is the Guardian, who starts with a Shield. The One-Handed Spear comes in two varieties: the Leaf Spear and Short Spear. Pair this weapon with short-ranged Blunt weapons for a variety of melee damage types at your disposal.

Falchion

Chivalry 2 Knight Weapons Falchion

The Falchion is a short-range weapon, which the Knight should theoretically be able to use efficiently as they take damage. The problem with the falchion is that it just doesn't do as much damage as other primary weapons available to the Knight, and its short attack range means having to take a lot of hits.

It is a one-handed weapon, which opens up some options. Similar to the One-Handed spear, it can be used by a shield-wielding Guardian better than classes without a shield. It comes in its normal Falchion form or a larger Cleaver Falchion design, and is best paired with Blunt damage weapons like the Mace.

Pole Axe

Pole Axe Chivalry 2 Knight Weapons

The Pole Axe is a lengthy two-handed axe with its blade at the very tip of the handle. It's got great reach, and a few overhead swings will kill any player – if it connects. However, the Pole Axe is not great for close combat. Damage is reduced when hitting enemies with anything but the axe head.

The Pole Axe is far from one of the best Chivalry 2 weapons, but it's not bad: perhaps just more suited for the Vanguard class than the Knight, as they need to keep enemies at further range thanks to their low Health, and it can be used with the Vanguard's Charge ability very effectively. For the Knight, though, the Crusader subclass is best suited for a Pole Axe, and it should be paired with a Sword to open up access to Slashing damage.

Executioner's Axe

Executioner Axe Chivalry 2 Knight Weapons

The Executioner's Axe is another reach-based Knight weapon that outclasses other long-range options, thanks to its massive damage output. Two overhead swings will take out any other player, and it can take out Archers in just one swing. However, just like the spear and poleaxe, its length is its curse. A long weapon just doesn't work as well in interior areas as it does outdoors.

Knights find themselves surrounded by enemies or in tight corridors with their teammates (depending on the map) pretty often in Chivalry 2. Chances are, swinging the Executioner's Axe indoors is going to make it bounce off the wall or, worse, hurt a teammate. Outdoors, though, it's a powerhouse. Choose the Officer subclass to support your team, and pair it with a Sword for Slashing Damage.

Longsword

Chivalry 2 Knight Weapons Longsword

The longsword, available in the bastard sword and regular longsword variants, are an great all-around option for Knights. They have good reach without being so long as to bounce off walls in interior areas, and deal decent damage too. It's the "not too hot, not too cold, just right" weapon for the knight.

The one downside of the longsword is that it doesn't deal as much damage as other Knight weapons, though it is more reliable in other ways. You might not kill another Knight in two hits with a Longsword, but you can get more hits in as they fumble with a weighty weapon. Pair this with Blunt Damage weapons like the Morningstar, and use the Crusader or Guardian subclasses.

Axe

Axe Chivalry 2 Knight Weapons

The humble Axe, available as either the Horseman's Axe or the Viking Axe, is a great Chivalry 2 weapon for Knights in close quarters. Axes are close-range, hard-hitting weapons that can be used with a Shield. In fact, Axes are actually more effective against other Shields, too, breaking through them faster than Swords or Spears.

For those who want to play with an Axe weapon in Chivalry 2 without the punishing slow swing speed, the regular Axe is a good go-to. Pair the Axe with the Officer subclass to support your surrounding teammates, and use your choice of Blunt or Slashing side weapons as needed.

War Axe – Berserker's Axe, Winged Axe

War Axe Chivalry 2 Knight Weapons

The War Axe is the best One-Handed weapon available to Knights in Chivalry 2. It has the highest damage output, can be paired with a defense-boosting shield, and lets the Knight plow through other players with its fast swing speed. Available in either the Berserker's Axe or the Winged Axe forms, it's a powerhouse for close-quarters brawls.

Though this is the best One-Handed option for the Knight, it's not the best weapon overall. The Heavy Mace, Battle-Axe, and Two-Handed Hammer are much more powerful alternatives - unless you're truly dedicated to taking damage as a Tank, that is. With a War Axe, the best subclass is the Guardian for their shield, and it works well with almost any side weapon depending on the situation.

Heavy Mace

Heavy Mace Chivalry 2 Knight Weapons

The Heavy Mace, available as the Heavy Flanged Mace and the Grand Mace, is a Two-Handed medieval bashing stick. It swings slowly, but when it connects, it breaks armour and busts flesh apart with ease. It pairs best with a Sword for Slashing damage, in case you go up against a non-armored opponent, but it deals enough damage to one-shot most weak foes.

There's one downside of the heavy mace compared to other two-handed close-range weapons: it leaves the Knight open from all angles during the slow swinging animation. Keep an eye on Footmen and Vanguards in particular, as they can come out of nowhere to take advantage of slow-swinging Knights. Pair this with the Crusader for Oil Pots that can help at range.

Battle Axe – Double Axe, Bowtie Axe

Battle Axe Chivalry 2 Knight Weapons

The Battle-Axe is a Two-Handed medium-range axe that is on about the same level as the Heavy Mace. However, this one gets bumped up thanks to its faster swinging animation, which makes it deal much more damage overall in the right hands. It's more effective against undefended enemies, like Vanguards and Footmen, though the lack of a shield leaves the Knight open for Archers.

If the Knight can manage to close the distance on an Archer, the Battle-Axe can take them out in one clean overhead swing. Available as either the Double Axe or Bowtie Axe, the Battle-Axe is best used but the Officer for its support and paired with a Sword for access to Slashing damage – though you'll rarely need to swap from your primary weapon.

Two-Handed Hammer – Nadziak

Two-Handed Hammer Chivalry 2 Knight Weapons

The Two-Handed Hammer is the best weapon for Knights in Chivalry 2 because it lets the player take full advantage of its capabilities. It keeps the player in close combat, swings faster than one might expect, and has a huge chance for skull-crushing instant kills. The head of the hammer is massive, and the huge hitbox makes it easy to aim above the enemy neckline for near-guaranteed head explosions. All of these things taken together make it arguably the best Knight weapon Chivalry 2 has. Pair the Two-Handed hammer with the Crusader class for the Oil Pot, useful in group and ranged combat, and use a Sword for access to Slashing damage - but let's be honest, you're not going to put this away after getting your first skull crush.
