Chicken Run came to Netflix in October 2014, and the network is excited to announce on the 20th anniversary of the movie that it will be producing a sequel.

The original Chicken Run movie was and still is the highest-grossing stop-motion animated film of all time. Screenplay writer Karey Kirkpatrick is teaming up with John O'Farrel and Rachel Tunnard to write the next chapter of life for Ginger (Julia Sawalha) and her flock. The Netflix movie is expected to go into full production in 2021 with Nick Park (creator of Wallace & Gromit) consulting.

Another 20th anniversary coming up is for Chicken Run the video game, which was released for the original PlayStation and Dreamcast. Square Enix (formerly as Blitz Games) released it on the 14th of November in the same year. Perhaps Square Enix can take this opportunity to make its own sequel to the stealth game.

Among the Netflix originals, viewers can find Shaun the Sheep and Buddy Thunderstruck, both great examples of animated farm animals in this vein. The streaming service is well known for being a creative haven for franchises, and there has been a bit of cross-pollination with video games (such as The Witcher). According to Peter Lord, Co-Founder of Aardman Studios, "Netflix feels like the ideal creative partner for this project too: they celebrate the film-maker, which means we can make the film we want to make – the one we really care about – and share it with a global audience."

When viewers had last left the flock, they had successfully escaped to a chicken sanctuary. Rocky (Mel Gibson) looked like he was getting ready to settle down with Ginger. Now they have a little girl named Molly. It sounds like they will have to make a choice between the safe life and their own consciences when their chicken brethren on the mainland face an as-yet-unnamed existential threat. According to Aardman Studios, "this time, they’re breaking in!" The film will not be available in China.
