A game which many never thought would be seen again is back, as the 1996 first-person shooter Chex Quest is receiving an HD update and relaunch. First released as a prize in Chex cereal boxes, Chex Quest HD will take a more modern approach and launch for free on Steam. Excited Chex cereal eaters can expect the game this summer.

Chex Quest is a nonviolent total conversion of the original Doom. Rather than obliterate his enemies, the Chex Warrior uses a "zorcher" to transport Flemoids back to their home dimension. Players will invade the research colony of Bazoik where the Flemoids have invaded to take down Zorch Lord Snotfolus himself.

Chex Quest HD isn't just a simple rerelease, however. It makes significant upgrades to the classic game. Chex Quest HD now features local cooperative multiplayer, allowing players to choose from one of six different heroes to play with friends. The Chex Warrior no longer stands alone. Chex Quest HD also, naturally, features completely remade HD graphics.

For Chex fans who want to take their excitement to another level, Limited Run Games will also be selling the game via a retail copy for $39.99. The Chex Quest HD bundle includes a soundtrack, a poster, and an instruction manual. The $149.99 Chex Warrior Edition adds a concept art lithograph, enamel pins, a keychain, a t-shirt, a collectible coin, sticks, and a "full life size Zorcher" and a Chex warrior statue, too.

Chex Quest HD launches summer 2020 on PC.
