There's seemingly a market for horror games set in or around the Exclusion Zone where the Chernobyl disaster took place in 1986. Titles such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Chernobylite capture the gloomy nature of the post-nuclear incident, though the latter is perhaps less known than the former. However, The Farm 51's nuclear apocalyptic video game is a mishmash of ideas, many of which are executed pretty well, and a new update has just been rolled out which adds even more content to the stealth horror release.

In a recent report published over on Bloody Disgusting, fans of the mysterious indie title Chernobylite can enjoy the latest patch, which went live recently. The new update not only fixes a few bugs, but also brings with it "Monster Hunt," an additional game mode that sees players hunting one of three new enemies. In the brief trailer uploaded to All In! Games' YouTube channel a couple of days ago, the new irradiated monsters take the form of the Chernohost, Overgrown Duster, and Ancient Shadow, and it's up to the player to defeat the one that spawns.

The studio is evidently throwing a lot of love at the game post-release. Chernobylite had another update back in December, which, again, added some additional free DLC. This one, entitled "Ghost Town," included a new level, Pripyat Residential Area, which encourages more exploration of the game's world, as well as adding new events and new resources to collect. On top of that, "Ghost Town" had some additional side-quests, so it shows that The Farm 51 are interested in expanding the game as much as possible for the fan base.

In terms of open-world survival horror games, Chernobylite offers a little more than just standard scares. Along with the stealth aspects and mystery that come with a lot of games in this genre, it also throws into the mix base-building tactics, in which players must keep NPCs in their employ in good spirits with resources and home comforts. The story itself also teeters on the romantic as the protagonist seeks out his long-lost love in a world devastated by nuclear disaster.

While STALKER 2 is experiencing delays, Chernobylite is an incredibly detailed and involved alternative for anyone looking for an irradiated horror fest. This latest "Monster Hunt" patch is a testament to the developer's commitment to keeping the game ticking over with new ideas and new content, and will be pleasing to those who already enjoy the vanilla game, as well as the previous DLC.

Chernobylite is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, with plans to release ports for PS5 and Xbox Series.
