The divide between anime-only viewers and manga readers has always been a hot topic. Both sides believe their method of consumption is superior to the other. However, one thing manga readers do have to go for them is that they get to see things happen way before the anime-only fans.

When the Chainsaw Man anime began, it introduced viewers to the thrilling main cast of the show, including the very attractive redhead in a suit — Makima, a high-ranking public safety devil hunter and the object of Denji’s lustful desire. However, there is much more to the character than meets the eye that will leave anime viewers dumbfounded.

This article contains spoilers from the Chainsaw Man manga.

7 Makima Is The Control Devil

Many readers of the Chainsaw Man manga already know that Makima is the Control Devil. Her yellow eyes, with red rings reminiscent of hypnotic spirals, also foreshadow this. As the Control Devil, Makima can control and manipulate all living things that feel inferior to her, animals and devils included. For instance, as seen in a panel, she has been shown to use animals like mice to keep tabs on any targets of interest.

Makima can also brainwash people to make her people easier to manipulate as well as interfere with someone's memories, either by causing them to forget the traumatic events or by tricking them into believing that she saved them. However, she cannot brainwash things stronger than her, needing to beat them before she can do so.

6 Makima Kills Power

Makima brutally killing power is arguably the most shocking moment of the entire series. In chapter 81 of the manga, Power waits outside Makima’s house to give Denji a birthday cake. Knowing this, Makima asks Denji to open the door, so she can kill Power, and believing it is a joke, Denji opens the door, and Makima uses her psychic gun to obliterate Power’s torso.

The main reason why Makima kills power is to control Denji more easily. She killed her to void Denji’s contract with Pochita. Furthermore, she gave Denji the supposed happy life he craved, that happy life being money and a family(Power and Aki), so that she could take it away from him. However, Power does not fully die since she earlier fused with Denji after he drank her blood in chapter 71 of the manga.

5 Makima Is A Former Member Of The Four Horsemen

In the Manga, Makima reveals she is a member of the Four Horsemen, a group of very powerful devils. The Four Horsemen include the Death Devil, War Devil, Control Devil, and Hunger Devil. As a member, Makima can remember the names of the devils devoured by Chainsaw Man.

Despite working together, the Four Horsemen are a group that has differing objectives. For instance, Makima wishes to use Pochita's power to destroy the others, while the War Devil needs Pochita to vomit the Nuclear Weapon Devil to resurrect him.

4 She Has An Illustration of Paradise Lost In Her Possession

Makima and Chainsaw Man

In the panel where Makima leads Denji to the door before she kills Power, readers can see one of the Illustrations of Lost Paradise by the French artist Gustave Doré. This specific illustration shows the fall of the archangel—Lucifer.

As many may already be aware, Lucifer is an angel in heaven's good graces who was cast out to Hell and became the Devil. Makima had once been regarded as one of the most formidable devils to exist, but owing to her pride, she eventually fell from her position, just like Lucifer. She wanted the Chainsaw Devil's power to dominate the world and effectively become a deity; this act of arrogance led to her eventual defeat despite her enormous power as the Control Devil, one of the Four Horsemen.

3 Makima Does Not Like Denji

While this may be obvious to some who watch the anime, it does not explicitly state it. Instead, Makima simply admires Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil and one of the most powerful devils ever to exist. She dislikes Denji and thinks he does not deserve to be united with the Chainsaw Man and only views him as a means to an end, which is why she decides to be nice to him.

Makima plans to keep Chainsaw Man under her influence and use him to eradicate every devil from the world. Furthermore, she wishes to use him to get rid of everything unpleasant in the world, such as death, fear, sadness, and anger.

2 She is Immortal

Makima is a fully immortal being and has existed as the Control Devil since the beginning of human civilization. She can also miraculously recover from any injury, no matter how hard people or devils try to kill or hurt her.

Along with her immortality comes an insane level of physical durability, as she appears to feel nothing when she takes damage. For instance, when the Gun Devil shot her during their battle, Makima returned from death as though it was just a small wound. It is estimated that Makima died at least thirty times during her battle with the Gun Devil. However, if the Chainsaw Man devours her, she loses her immortality.

1 Makima Is The Main Antagonist

Makima

Makima being a villain may surprise those who have yet to read the manga, but Makima is among the main antagonists of the series Chainsaw Man. In addition, she is the primary antagonist of the Public Safety Saga, notably the major antagonist of both the Control Devil Arc, the first arc of Part 1, and the Gun Devil Arc, where she first reveals her true identity.

Chapter 75 of the manga revealed that Makima is the Control Devil humans have feared for centuries. This revelation came as other countries, including the United States, tried to flee her grasp to stop her from bringing about the worst kind of peace for the world. Although initially acting as a friend to Denji by taking him in and trying to improve his life, Chapter 84 revealed that Makima only sought to use him to achieve her ultimate goal of ridding the world of all devils, and she was not the kind person Denji had believed her to be.
