One of the more interesting aspects of Chainsaw Man’s world-building is the mechanics of its devils. Devils in this world are beings manifested from human fears of certain concepts/objects. So for example, the Gun Devil is a big target for much of the series, as the fear around guns is so high that it is capable of decimating cities in a matter of minutes.

There are rare phenomena where devils can become fused with humans. Fiends are devils who have taken over human corpses, but even rarer and more powerful than them are the hybrids/devil-humans. These are people who are able to adopt a devil’s powers through a hybrid state. There are only eight hybrids shown so far in the series, and their strength varies quite intensely.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead

8 Spear Hybrid

The first four hybrids on this list are only shown off in a single fight and aren’t even officially named. As such, they’re being ranked based on their presumed power and contributions during that fight.

By this metric, the Spear Hybrid falls to the bottom of the group. To begin with, spears are not feared that much in modern society, having been outclassed by more modern weaponry. As such, the Spear Devil is likely on the weaker end of the weapon devils. During the big hybrid battle, he also makes the fewest contributions.

7 Whip Hybrid

Moving one step up, this hybrid is still rather unremarkable and doesn’t contribute an awful lot to its sole combat encounter. At some point, she was created through the fusion of an unnamed person and the Whip Devil and employed by Makima, much like Denji.

Whips are still rather old forms of weaponry, like spears, but due to their use in acts of torture/domination, they assumedly attract more fear than spears. This would make the Whip Devil stronger than the Spear Devil, presumably by a decent margin.

6 Flamethrower Hybrid

Of the four unnamed hybrids, this one makes use of the most modern weapon in the lineup: the flamethrower. During their group battle, this hybrid was a decent threat but ultimately didn’t get much development before being defeated.

Based on his devil powers, the Flamethrower Hybrid should be fairly powerful. The fear of fire is one of the most primal fears for a living creature, and flamethrowers are the main weapon people think about when fire is concerned. The only thing that might hold back the strength of the Flamethrower Devil is how rare the weapon is.

5 Longsword Hybrid

The final of the unnamed hybrids, the Longsword Hybrid made decent contributions during the group hybrid fight and seemed to be quite confident in his abilities before transforming into his hybrid form.

Estimating his power based on the presumed power of the Longsword Devil, it should be the highest among the unnamed hybrids. While flamethrowers are more dangerous, longswords are commonly seen in the media and can be owned by civilians. Due to this, more people would have a persistent fear of them, thus empowering the Longsword Devil.

4 Katana Man

Similarly to Denji, Katana Man was fused with a devil. Specifically, he had his heart swapped out for the Katana Devil itself, just like how Pochita became Denji’s heart.

In his hybrid form, he has blades protruding from his arms and forehead and is able to use them for a unique 3-sword fighting style akin to that of One Piece’s Zoro. He can also perform draw attacks at blinding speeds, which helped him nearly take the win over Denji. While he’s shown to be more of a threat than the nameless hybrids, he ends up being the weakest of the named ones.

3 Reze

Reze’s origins are somewhat mysterious, however, it is established that she was part of an experiment done by the Soviet Union to create their own super soldiers. Due to this, she was fused with a part of the Bomb Devil at a young age and given special training, making her quite the adversary.

Using the Bomb Devil’s powers, Reze is able to fight much as Bakugo does in My Hero Academia. She can use explosions to propel herself at high speeds, and of course, create explosive projectiles. In a pinch, she can even turn her own head into a bomb.

2 Quanxi

Quanxi in her hybrid Devil form

It is said by Kishibe that if every human on earth got into a big fight, Quanxi would be the last one standing. When she arrives on the scene to capture Denji, she quickly proves him right. She moves so fast and strikes so hard that her own swords can’t even withstand one of her flurries without breaking.

When in her hybrid form, she is further boosted by the Crossbow Devil’s powers, allowing her to stalk prey from the shadows, being practically invisible while doing so. She can even shoot projectiles at such speeds and power that her enemies turn to swiss cheese in the blink of an eye. For most of the series, she was easily the most powerful hybrid and devil hunter.

1 Denji

Denji as Chainsaw Man

By the end of Part 1 of Chainsaw Man, the audience is shown the real potential of Denji’s devil abilities. Chainsaw Man at full power is easily able to take on all seven other hybrids, and win. Even when blasted into space, he’s able to rip out his own heart, throw it back to earth, and then regenerate from it.

Chainsaw Man also happens to be the devil most feared by other devils. Not only is his determination and ferocity in battle terrifying, but he can also erase devils from existence by eating them. While Denji isn’t always able to call forth this level of power, the fact that he has access to it easily makes him stronger than even Quanxi.
