Throughout its over one hundred chapter run, Chainsaw Man has taken turns that no fan could have expected. It's a wild ride of a series. - there's no telling where the series will go next, which is what makes it so thrilling to follow. This list takes a deep dive into the most shocking of shocking reveals of the series so far!

Warning: this list contains major spoilers for the Chainsaw Man Manga.

8 The Creation Of Chainsaw Man

The first shocking reveal of the series may be sort of expected, given that it's in the very first episode of the anime, and it relates to the name of the show. Still, Pochita merging with Denji after his death so suddenly? It certainly shocked many readers and viewers.

Prior to this, Pochita is just a little sidekick (admittedly, with a chainsaw in its head), but the creation of Chainsaw Man is something that really shocked the audience and set the tone for the rest of the series. Further along in the Manga, Pochita is also revealed to have a more important role and backstory.

7 Public Safety Bureau Killing

The Katana Man arc of what's known as 'The Public Safety Saga' begins with a bang. Quite literally. Denji, Aki, Power, and Himeno are eating in a restaurant, when they hear what they assume to be drum beats. Unfortunately, this couldn't be further from the case, and the chapter takes on an even more sinister and shocking tone from here.

While on various missions, every single one of the Public Safety Bureau get attacked by the Gun Devil's henchmen, and nearly all of them die. Given that this is reasonably early on in the Manga (Chapter Twenty-Three), it's likely to be included in the anime.

6 Santa Claus

Santa Claus from Chainsaw Man in various forms.

The international assassins arc is packed with the usual shocking twists and turns, but Santa Claus (yes, Santa Claus), may have been one of the most sinister. Initially, she appears as a sickly Devil Hunter and mentor to Russian Devil Hunter, Tolka - but in reality, she's a terrifying being that has a deal with the Doll Devil.

As the Doll Devil, Santa Claus is manipulative and cruel, and can create 'perfect doll' assassins by instilling human emotions into creepily lifelike puppets to do her bidding. She can also transfer her consciousness into any of these dolls, effectively making her immortal.

5 The Control Devil

Chainsaw Man's Makima is revealed to be the Control Devil.

From her very introduction, Makima is a complex and sadistic character, which is what makes her so interesting to watch. The way she seems to care for Denji, but is clearly grooming him - there's a ton of questions about her identity and motives. Around Chapter Seventy-Five, some of these questions start to get answers when it's revealed that Makima is the Control Devil herself.

At this point, the readers have only had a glimpse of the level of control Makima possesses over her subordinates. The Control Devil is so powerful, however, that even the President of the United States organizes her assassination.

4 Opening The Door

In the final arc of part one, Makima calls Power home to celebrate Denji's birthday. Given that Makima is the control devil, it's very unlikely she came of her own free will. But this is where Power meets her end (for now?). With a stunning air of mundanity, Makima opens fire and kills Power in one shot. Happy Birthday!

Now, since Power is a devil, she will technically just return to hell. But there's no denying the killing of this fan-favorite character was a huge shock to readers. Especially, given what follows.

3 Denji's Father

Manga panels from Chainsaw Man.

This chapter is a hell of a ride. Makima, twisting the knife further after killing Power, recounts all the deaths in Denji's life - and ends on the most devastating of them all.

After forcing him to open the door for Power, she forces him to open the metaphorical door that has been holding back his past trauma. This door has appeared multiple times at this point in Denji's dreams, building tension and leaving readers to speculate about what could be behind it. Doing this, she reveals that Denji killed his own father in self-defense.

2 Makima's Plan

Makima leads Denji down a hallway.

This list is getting pretty Makima-heavy, but that's not without reason. Makima lays out her plan to sever the contract between Pochita (the Chainsaw Devil) and Denji. The terms of this contract? That Pochita remain with Denji as long as he fulfills his dreams of having a normal life.

To sever this contract, Makima makes Denji move in with Power and Aki. Once Denji has been forced to kill Aki, Makima shoots power, then reveals to Denji that he killed his own father. In his emotionally destroyed state, Makima manipulates Denji into admitting he never deserved a normal life, thus breaking the contract. All so she could have the Chainsaw Devil's power for herself.

1 Yuko's Contract

Manga panels of Yuko from Chainsaw Man in human and devil form.

Yuko is a character introduced in part two of the Manga as a kind, warm-hearted member of the Devil Hunter club. She has dreams of avenging her parents' death at the hands of a devil by becoming a Devil Hunter herself.

Her kind personality, however, is a way to deflect her twisted and cold-blooded sense of justice. She's willing to kill anybody as long as it serves her idea of justice, including mere school bullies. It's then revealed that she made a contract with the Justice Devil in order to receive 'a heart that shines with justice'.
