Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards brought a series of notable announcements last night, with The Last of Us 2 managing to secure the coveted Game of the Year trophy and a series of never before seen titles being revealed. One of those games was a new multiplayer fantasy flight experience by developer Playwing, with the studio unveiling Century: Age of Ashes.

The game, which will ship in Early Access on PC in February 2021,  focuses on players mounting dragons and flying around large combat arenas, taking on rival opponents in daring aerial battles. The footage that accompanied the game's announcement showcased the title's visuals, setting, and combat, with Century: Age of Ashes looking to be a fast-paced, action-packed multiplayer experience that will be sure to entice fans of the fantasy genre.

The teaser opens on an icy fantasy setting, with dragons circling a lone fortress surrounded by snow-covered mountains and a frozen lake. Within the structure, a series of armor-clad knights mount dragons, setting off as the cinematic footage cuts to gameplay. From the offset, the game looks to feature striking visuals and an enhanced framerate, as the player seamlessly soars in and around the fortress's architecture while firing colorful projectiles at rival dragons. It also appears as though there will be a number of different maps to play on, with a desert-based canyon also cropping up during the footage.

Players will seemingly be able to swap between several dragons with different abilities as well, including ones that wield traditional fire breath, others that can turn invisible on command, and some that can launch what looks to be a highly-powerful sniper shot that can badly damage opponents. The title has already drawn a number of comparisons to PlayStation 3 game Lair which, while criticized for its control scheme and technical faults, was often looked on as a flawed gem due to its brilliant concept. Hopefully, the title can succeed where Lair failed when it launches in February next year.

The Game Awards also revealed several other huge games during the event, including a spiritual successor to Dead Space called The Callisto Protocol, a follow-up to the Perfect Dark series, and a brand new look at the next entry in the Mass Effect franchise. The event, on the whole, was a lot of fun, with several tantalizing announcements, some emotional speeches, and several of gaming's biggest 2020 releases gaining huge awards. As for Century: Age of Ashes, it'll be interesting to see how the multiplayer game fares when it launches in just a few months' time.

Century: Age of Ashes is slated to release on PC in February, 2021.
