When CD Projekt Red first announced Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2012 the studio set the gaming world on fire. With just a short teaser trailer, the game became one of the most anticipated titles in development. Six years later and aside from the assurance it will be bigger than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we still know very little about the game, let alone when we can play it.

Still, the studio shows no signs lowering expectations. In speaking today at the Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar, CD Projekt discussed its goals and expectations with regards to Cyberpunk 2077with CEO Adam Kicinski describing it as "more ambitious that Witcher 3" and a new blockbuster franchise.

"Cyberpunk is our new Witcher 3, but even more ambitious. Our goal is to establish a new blockbuster franchise from the beginning. We work in a new universe, futuristic universe. We believe it's very appealing to players, not only RPG players but this is a true RPG, like Witcher, like Witcher 3, for mature audiences."

It's always nice to see a developer having this much faith in its own project especially after all the issues the studio has faced with regards to the game's development. With the departure of major team members like the lead level designer Mateusz Piaskiewicz, senior gameplay producer Derek Patterson, and project manager Ovidiu Traian Vasilescu, and having Cyberpunk 2077 files stolen and held at ransom, it would be easy to see how enthusiasm might wain.

During the presentation, Kicinski and the CD Projekt team also briefly discussed the status of the online card game Gwent and how its helped grow its online distribution service GOG. It's proof of CD Projekt's respect for gamers that despite GOGs recent success the studio has already made it clear that Cyberpunk 2077 will also be distributed on Steam and not used as a tool to pull more people into the service.

In any case, players will hopefully get some more information in the coming months. With Cyberpunk 2077's official Twitter feed recently coming back to life after four years of silence (letting out a simple *beep*) as well as CD Projekt being confirmed to appear at E3 this year, gamers might not be far off from seeing if it has all been worth the wait.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development. A release date and platforms have not been announced.
