At this point, many are willing to forgive the original mess that was Cyberpunk 2077's release back in December 2020. As one of the worst video game launches in recent history, up there with the likes of the now recovered No Man's Sky, developer CD Projekt Red has had a tough time of it. However, the studio is pulling through and the most recent mega update has overhauled a lot of the initial problems that were holding things back. On top of that, the team is now hosting a competition to celebrate fans' in-game photo skills.

In a recent post on the Cyberpunk 2077 Steam page, CDPR has started a contest which encourages players to use photo mode to capture some elegant images with a chance to win some prizes. There are three challenges being set. The first one, which began yesterday and goes on until next Wednesday, is simply called "apartments." No other prompt is given on the post, so it's seemingly up to players to decide how to run with that theme. The other two challenges have yet to be named, but they will take place between April 13 and April 20 for the second one and April 27 to May 4 for the third.

Prizes on offer include an art book showcasing the beautiful visuals of Cyberpunk 2077, a goodie bag, and a gaming mouse, keyboard, and headset from Alienware. To participate, entrants will need to head to the link posted on the Steam page, which will take them to the website containing more information. After taking their shot in-game using photo mode, fans will be able to upload the image, filling out their own details as well as saying which platform the screenshot was taken on. The caveats are that mods must not be used and players are not permitted to edit the photo "using any software."

Photo mode is something of a new concept in gaming and one that some may even forget is a thing. With many modern games now incorporating it as a feature and the likes of Hideo Kojima praising photo mode, it gives players an opportunity in-game to stretch their creative vision, and this competition being held by CDPR could yield some interesting results.

It also signposts just how stunning the world of Cyberpunk 2077 is. With the vast and detailed Night City replete with a smorgasbord of individuals and neon colors, there will undoubtedly be a lot of people out there who will be able to take some pretty incredible photos.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
