One year ago, Cyberpunk 2077 released and rocked the gaming industry, with controversy over it being buggy and not running well on older systems. CD Projekt Red has worked to repair its image and the game since then, revealing that more resources have been dedicated to the development of Cyberpunk 2077's expansion.

While Cyberpunk 2077 still isn't where CD Projekt Red wants it to be, the game is undoubtedly in a much different state than it was a year ago. Thanks to updates throughout the year, improving the game's performance, minimizing bugs, and a litany of other fixes, Cyberpunk 2077 has seen an upsurge in positive reception on Steam, as many people are likely trying the game for the first time. It is still a work in progress though, as CD Projekt Red has two major updates planned for the game in early 2022, along with definitive next-gen versions coming eventually as well. CD Projekt Red's president recently spoke confidently that Cyberpunk 2077 will be " a very good game" eventually.

CD Projekt Red just held its Q3 financial report for the 2021 fiscal year, detailing how its resources have been used so far. In a series of horizontal bar graphs, CD Projekt Red visually outlines this year's development team allocation, starting with values from the end of 2020. At that time, over half of CD Projekt Red's resources went to the support of Cyberpunk 2077 and the development of its next-gen version, with about an eighth of its resources going towards the game's expansion. By the end of September however, resources for Cyberpunk 2077's current support and its expansion have become about equal, with many resources of the former project transitioning to the latter.

Besides Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red was managing resources for a variety of other projects as well. The studio's support of its Gwent-related projects has remained about the same since last year, with the official Gwent card game ongoing for a couple of years now.

Seeing CD Projekt Red start moving its resources to new projects is an indication that Cyberpunk 2077 is headed in the right direction. Obviously, just using these visual representations is not truly determinate of how these projects are proceeding—especially since Cyberpunk 2077 support is still the largest category of resource allocation—but it is nonetheless a hopeful sign that CD Projekt Red will someday soon realize this game the way it intended originally. PC players had a fair enough time with the game, but it is about time that console players can get a desirable experience with it.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions in development.
