From the long-awaited announcement of Animal Crossing for the Switch to the reveal of a brand new Game Freak RPG, this week's Nintendo Direct presentation was jam-packed with exciting news. Between all of the other updates, it may have been easy to miss a very exciting reveal about some iconic board games making their way to the portable Nintendo console.

In partnership with Asmodee Digital, the Switch has put together a powerhouse lineup of tabletop games for the Switch. Carcassonne, the classic tile placement game, is releasing this December and it sounds like many other iconic titles aren't far behind.

The reveal also mentioned the co-op hit Pandemic, the dungeon crawler Munchkin, the Lord of the Rings Living Card Game, and, of course, Catan Universe. Anybody want to trade rock for wheat?

Here's a look at the promotion tweet that followed the Nintendo Direct reveal...

These games add to the constantly growing library of exciting titles on the Nintendo Switch. It's hard to believe that just a year ago there were concerns that the console wouldn't have enough games to support a following. Now the handheld has managed to capitalize on non-Nintendo games in a way that the company has never pulled off before.

Hopefully more details about the other digital tabletop experience will be arriving soon and fans will find out exactly when in 2019 they can start rolling digital dice and slinging coded cardboard.

Carcassonne releases December 2018 for Nintendo Switch. The other games are expected to arrive throughout 2019.
