Following news that a mysterious new video game cartoon is coming from the producers of Adventure Time, there is speculation that the cartoon is in fact a Castlevania TV show.
From the Netflix-exclusive Skylanders series to the upcoming Mega Man cartoon, it certainly appears that gaming studios are putting forth a big effort to bring new audiences to its video game franchises. While it remains to be seen whether any of the planned TV shows will be able to buck the trend of bad video game movies, it is hard to deny that a number of interesting properties are currently undergoing the TV development process, and should a new rumor indeed turn out to be true, a Castlevania TV series may soon be hitting TV screens.
Adventure Time producer Fred Seibert recently revealed that his studio, Frederator Studios, is working on a new cartoon based on a longstanding video game series but didn’t reveal any specific details. While Seibert refrained from revealing what franchise is being adapted, there is speculation that the longstanding video game series in question is in fact Castlevania.
It has been known for quite some time that Frederator Studios have held the rights to a Castlevania TV series, something that Seibert vaguely alluded to when he revealed that the property his studio is currently working on has been “in [the studio] for 12 years“. While confirmation of these rumors have yet to be addressed at the time of writing, perhaps the most convincing piece of evidence is the involvement of Hollywood producer Adi Shankar, who revealed on Facebook last year that he was working on a Castlevania TV show with Seibert and Kevin Klonde.
While all the signs are pointing towards a Castlevania TV show, it remains to be seen whether this project will come to fruition, but the timing of Seibert’s reveal is quite fitting given that the series recently had its 30th anniversary in September. Since TV development is a lengthy process, it will certainly be a while before Frederator Studios’ mysterious new project hits TV screens. For fans looking to get their vampire fix sooner, the Castlevania spiritual successor Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night from Symphony of the Night director Koji Igarashi is coming early next year and will certainly tide gamers over until more details are revealed about Frederator Studios’ new show.
With Nintendo looking to make movies, Telltale working on a new TV show and IP, a Halo TV series still in the works, and now the possibility of a Castlevania cartoon, it goes without saying that the TV and video game landscape is currently looking very interesting indeed.
